It works fine from Maemo if I have not yet run KDE since booting.
It works fine for me in both KDE and maemo for both n800 and n810, I think its just you, can anyone else confirm?

Did you create some kind of custom key bindings in KDE. I can confirm it works, Its something on your system as far as I can tell.

Mine works flawlessly, in maemo, then in KDE, then in maemo again without rebooting.

    I found it!

    You did :-)

The problem was the xmodmap ~/.xmap on startup - as soon as I moved the shortcut to that out of .kde/Autostart it started working. Also that fixed this!
(which was there from the beginning, but I was more distracted by the other problem to think they might be related)

I'll let you know if I run into any more key-related problems.

Ok... I totally confused by davidgro's problem and fix. When I press the power (while in KDE) button and select 'LOCK' then I get a pop-up window asking me for a code - no matter what I enter, it says incorrect code and refuses to lock the device.

When I select 'LOCK TOUCH SCREEN AND KEYS' everything behaves normally as if I had just used the slidy switch (the one to the far right of the power button) on top of the device. It also unlocks appropriately using the slidy switch.

I don't see a slidy switch on my n800. Is that an n810 thing?
(apparently slidy is also not a word. It should be, and I'll keep using it
EDIT: looks like the google consensus is that the non-word should be spelled "slidey" - 'learn something new every day...)

I had problen to unlock screen when I lock it by switch on button.
The square button send wrong event.
The solution is simple edit file .xmod and delete event for keycode 36.

    download the tar.gz and bzip2.gz

    gunzip tar.gz
    gunzip bzip2.gz

Then you will have a tar and bzip2

    mv tar /usr/bin
    mv bzip2 /usr/bin

in you instructions where it says to call tar, use the usr/bin tar

    /usr/bin/tar jxvf KDE.tar.bz2

I did the above, and error message:

    I am at root,

    / # /usr/bin/tar KDE358v2.tar.bz2

    /bin/sh: /usr/bin/tar: Permission denied

    a bad downloaded file, again?

upon ls /, there is a /tar from BusyBox, do I have to get rid of that one first?

    Edit: I meant,
    / # /usr/bin/tar jxvf KDE358v2.tar.bz2

    Thanks PCQ.

    My system
