Hello, I just purchased a nokia n800 and I'm very satisfied with this fine piece of craftsmanship . However, i noticed a hissing sound - not like the one described when listening to music as mentioned in a previous thread.

The hissing sound starts and stops EVERY TIME i click something on the device. If I open up the internet, the speakers will hiss very low for 4 secs, then stop. then i will click the URL window, and the same thing happens. then i will click something else, same thing. However, it only happens when the volume is on. When I turn the volume OFF, there is NO sound.

So my question is - is this normal, or should i return my n800? Thanks a lot.

I think it's normal. Mine does the same thing, and I suspect that everyone's does the same, too.

Yep, it's normal. The N800 has crappy sound. Some people don't notice it because they don't have acute ears or are using inexpensive headphones. I can't believe this doesn't get more attention.

On the bright side, eventually you will learn to ignore it. Besides this BIG flaw, the N800 is a really good PMP though.

Turn off the touchscreen click sound if you want to not wake up the sound chip every time you touch something.

My TX and T|E both did this, and my N800 does too (the T|E got noise from the touchscreen when you pressed the pen down as well!).

The Palm people did come up with a solution - get headphones with an inline volume control (or a short headphone extension cable with one), turn the device up to full, and turn that one down, thereby increasing the signal to noise ratio, but keeping the same volume.

Erg, didn't we just have a whole thread on this point? Why is it being re-hashed again?

MstPrgmr, it's a software issue here, not a hardware one.

Ah, right here we go. . . . http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ad.php?t=16225
