The good thing is that neither N900 nor N9 are smartphones. In many ways they are crippled and require way too much modding, and baby sitting to be comparable to real smartphones. So I treat them as dumbphones. Works for me.

This may be true for the N900. But the N9 works just fine without modding. In fact, most problems only start when you begin modding.
The good thing is that none of the Lumias are smartphones. In many ways they are crippled by their lack of apps, capabilities and features and require much modding, which is impossible because of the restrictive and limited OS. So I treat them as dumbphones. Works for me.
