Does anyone know if there is software out there to turn the nokia n800 in to a software headset much like all those bluetooth headsets?
Perhaps they are just shipped with proprietary firmware but if anyone has any clue if this is possible or if there is an installable package. Let me know.
I basically want to keep my phone around as a gateway device to the internet tablet as I already do with the internet connectivity. Making and receiving calls would be a great bonus.
Why? Because i want the beauty of an open platform like the n800 with the convenience of being able to talk to people using my cell network. I am not always in a spot that affords thw bandwidth of skype and that is why i do utilize the internet on my phone using bluetooth. It is just for convenience purposes as i it would be great to have the tablet as a carrier agnostic way of talking on your mobile network. Based on the other replies I'd say i am not alone in that desire.
as much as the tablets aren't phones, because there is no phone in them we have to carry around a phone to make calls when there is no wifi. some people can't afford the ridiculous data rates and so tether and voip are often out of the question when is comes to no wifi areas. it would be awsome if you could use the tablet as a headset so that you only have to take out one device. then you could leave your cell in your pocket.
I totally agree with this. I'd love to be able to make and receive calls via my N800. The big one for me though would be sending and receiving text messges with on-phone contacts integration.
