Does anyone know why this thread doesn't appear in the list of most recent posts on the itT home page?

(Or at least, it didn't when I checked in ten minutes ago, and thought I would be first to post about the new press release )

Will be available during the second quarter of 2006? the next month - will be true?

Another reflexion the Gizmo Project is only available in UK and USA. Is there a SIP software to make and receive calls from public telephony networks in another countries? for example Spain.

Spanish resume of the Nokia press release, can be view in:

Gizmo uses standard SIP, so this means that the client in the tablet must be able to connect to any SIP service. I would be really suprised if it would be "gizmo only" SIP client.

I've converted the webcast into a 770-compatible video and uploaded it to:

http://bleb.org/misc/os2006-webcast.avi (20MB)

Cheers,

Andrew

Fantastic Andrew, cheers. Now the subway ride to work will be a little more interesting!

So. Onto the 2K6 OS itself. I can't decide if I like the Star-Trek(tm)-esque layout. I hope the colour scheme will be modifyable.
I'm very concerned this came out and I haven't heard about developers having got their hands on it. In my opinion the independent dev group is extremely important. Apps = functionality; without functionality, the 770 is another paperweight. Everything's gotta be recompiled and modified, and most of these people are coding for free in their spare time and are probably already suffering burnout. I think the spate of new apps is going to dry up for the first little while until the 2006-OS-holdouts start cranking things out.

They're so frustrating at work, but do I ever love the 770 devs. (then again I don't have to look at any SQL you guys write)

The OS itself looks a lot more polished and hopefully is a lot faster. I had the inkling that they might put their effort into 2006 and only try to keep 2005 afloat - barely - to keep people happy. Let's see how it performs.

... and to migrate the URL to the pics from the other thread...

Personally, I love the way that the new curves in the UI seem to reflect the curves of the cover and of the hardware keys.
