HI. What in the world is kde? There's this seperate huge forum dedicated to it so i'd be daft to overlook it due to lack of understanding. So if any polite reasonable human would like to do a quick and dirty explanation of it, will get my and all the other noobs who are too timid to ask's thanks.

KDE is a desktop environment, just like Gnome and Xfce are. KDE also has its own suite of applications and whatnot as well. If you want to read up on more info about it, check here.

To relate it to the Windows world, it's somewhat similar to replacing your standard explorer.exe (taskbar, desktop, etc) with say Litestep or other shell replacement. Except desktop environments in Linux also have their own applications and such that are crafted especially for that desktop environment.

I hope that makes some sense. Maybe someone else can give a better explanation.
