    Good
For the time being got the guest room empty.
I'll fill you in if we get (any) company in the meantime and hope it doesn't conflict with your travel itinerary...
Give me plenty of heads up time...if you can make it out my way...and want to stop in for the weekend (less likely for visiting guest space-conflicts and all)....
Wendy and I'd love to have you.

    @endsormeans
My wife and I have a mammoth 'round the world trip being planned for next year. Involves a return to Vancouver. Will pm you with our (tentative) plans.
Thanks again for the invite. Would love to be shown around the Island by a local.

    Gooder...
I'm sure we'll have time to show you some of the coolest places.... a few known and many not.... tour of the island in a weekend?...the size of Britain?
    Naw...
but a bit of it ...
a few of the best bits I know of..at an enjoyable pace....without crazily racin' around and spoilin' your visit *... for sure.
    Looking forward to it.

*that is the thing about the islands here...each smaller island you visit has a "temporal" bubble around it...I swear...for example...the moment you come to Van. Isle...time slows noticeably compared to the continent...and the surrounding islands...from there...slow considerably again in compare. Local belief is the islands are the rungs of the ladder to heaven...Van Isle being the lowest rung...and the land of the dead...where the souls of the deceased go.
The home of the Devil hisself ...is not far from here...see it almost every day.
    For those interested in the...hmm...odd...
this part of the world is a HUGE ley line mess...a nexus ..nexi? .multiples anyway....well ...hum...yea...enuff of the weird and odd.

If you buy a cheap SD card, especially form an auction or discount site be wary. Often they will report 64gb or 128gb, they will even format, but you will get errors when you go over the real capacity, some are so tricky that they will start to write over the first data you had added so you need to do something like add many TV seasons to properly test the capacity.

Correct! My fake 128GB card from Ebay did format. I spent several hours coping video files, only to find out that beyond a few GBs, nothing were pasted to the file folders on the card (in some cases no corresponding file folders were created). Those files simply disappeared into thin air.

Mine is a SanDisk Ultra with upto 48MB/s read for $110.

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Managed to format it using the phone, since NTFS is a read only system on the N900. Any idea of how to test the speed on the N900. Is there a program I can run on the phone?

This last "leap" was a slow one... and it was mostly because of business, nothing else. The technology was there for a while, it just never got pushed for the public.

However, I wonder what the future of disks will be?
BluRay already hit a ceiling with ~20GBs.

Unless they use ARD (Archival Disks) which is pretty much BluRay disks with three-layers and double-sided and more storage. And they're crapping out at 300GBs. SONY thinks it might be able to get them to 1TB. These disks won't even be released until late 2015, or 2016. And won't be re-writable. And we're talking 50MB/s reading speed.

So let me see, in 2016 we would have:
    - Improved Cloud storage/streaming
(thanks to faster processing, better compression, faster, more reliable and more widespread of 4G connectivity for phones/tablets)
    - 1TB microSD cards, and 2TB SD/CF cards

Cloud Computing is going to look really attractive in 2 years time. And microSD's will surpass physical disks in all aspects, and would be more price competitive than today's comparison. Cards like SDXC will make a total joke out of physical disks. And with CF, it will be more hilarious.

Wasn't SanDisk (alongside Kingston) one of the worst in terms of reliability and price?

That's why there's so many duds/fakes for sale on eBay and so on.

Its been proven time and time again that Samsung's cards are on a much higher level. Faster speeds, greater reliability, great price.

Bare that in mind, it'll be better for your long trip.
By the way, what did you have in mind for the big trip? How many countries?
