"Meizu, the famous smartphone manufacturer from China, and Canonical, the company that develops the Linux-based Ubuntu operating system, have officially signed up a deal to promote a new edition of Flyme OS at Meizu headquarters in China. The modifiied OS will roll out as Ubuntu Touch."
God only knows Utouch needs it. But I rather they used a true OS like Mer. And on a better and more open device like OPO. And from a more larger company like Lenovo.
Ideal OEM + Ideal OS + Ideal Device + Ideal UX = : D
...possible candidates
Lenovo + Mer + OPO + FlyMe = one happy Dave999
Now that sounds a bit different. The article I cited was suggesting Flyme OS is going to be rebased on Ubuntu Touch instead of Android, but this sounds like Canonical is going to skin Flyme OS (Android) and call it Ubuntu Touch. That would actually make sense - I can't see Meizu leaving Android for another platform with little to no apps while retaining their look. Since Ubuntu has chosen to get rid of multitasking, how can you then tell Ubuntu Touch from Android?
What if Ubuntu skips smart phones as we know it and moves directly to discphones. Apps are less important at start... Or worse, a tablet
My industry was exported in 1990,
- I had to google what you were referring to,
as I was in the jungle when that thing happened.
I had never even heard about it.
What a comparison.

to be sure,
this Ubuntu phone Vapourware
seems to be evaporating
like dry ice discarded on an El Paso bridge
on a hot day in August.
Lots of huff and puff and nothing left to show that
it ever even existed outside of a disappointing cache memory.
