Hello, all! I have already downloaded the new OS2008 binary image (for the power fix!) from the Nokia support page (where you insert your serial number). Is there any way (simple or otherwise) to make the Software Update Wizard use this already downloaded image to update my tablet (and hopefully give the very busy Nokia servers a break)? Or are there other methods to flash the tablet easily? BTW, I love the N800, just have to get rid of the nasty power bug with this update! Thanks in advance. There is such great information on this forum!!
Use the Software Update Wizard and point to the update you downloaded, make sure that your N8x0 is fully charged before doing the update. Also, it was mentioned on another post that this update is only for the power issue, if you are not experiencing this, there is no need to regress (2007.51-3?)
Hello, again. Thanks for the reply. Since I am new at this, how do you make the update wizard "point" to the already downloaded file (is it a simple menu selection, as I did not see it?). Also I am a bit confused about the OS version of the update. I had previously updated my N800 to OS2008 and the file I downloaded this morning appeared to indeed be a 2008 update (it is named RX-34_2008SE_2.2007.51-3_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin). The Nokia page listed it as the "second" OS2008 update. So I should NOT be regressing with this update, correct! (I did indeed have the power bug under OS2008 also). Once again, thanks for the help!

Use the update wizard and resist the urge to bounce on the "Next" button the way we all tend to when confronted with such things. As you move through the wizard, you will reach a point where it displays something to the effect of:
"Your tablet currently has X installed."
"I can download and install Y for you."
At that point, there's also a button to browse and select an alternate firmware file from your local computer. The button isn't down at the bottom with "Next", "Cancel", and the like. Instead, it's up near the listing of the firmware version the wizard wants to download and install.
1. Follow steps 1-2 above.
2. Download the software image that you wish to update to from http://maemo.org/downloads/nokia_N800.
3. To access the Nokia Internet Tablet Software Update Wizard on your computer, open the Start menu and select Programs > Nokia > Nokia Internet Tablet Software Update Wizard > Nokia Internet Tablet Software Update Wizard.
4. Follow the instructions on screen to complete the software update.
5. On the summary page of the wizard, press the change button to select the software image you downloaded in step 2 from your computer's file system.
