Yeah, apparently he estimates the transition will require roughly 2 Billion of those batteries AND plus solar panels.

2,000 Million PowerPacks x US$3,500 = US$7,000 Billion (or much less)
I estimate with the use of larger PowerPack, and products from cheaper companies, we can expect it to cost roughly US$5,000 Billion, and subsidies will probably knock-off another $1,000 Billion. So it could be as cheap as $4,000 Billion. That's VERY cheap.
However, it doesn't include the Solar Panels or Installation.... and that will make it much more expensive.

That 2 Billion units is a huge figure, but its actually small when you think about:
- How many Android smartphones get sold each year (500+ Million low-end)
- How many Android superphones get sold each year (300 Million mid/high end)
- How many iPhones get sold each year (210 Million)
- How many Android tablets/iPads/iPods (160 + 65 + 16 = 241 Million)
- How many Macs/Chromebooks/Windows (5 + 5 + 305 Million = 315 Million)
- How many cars get sold each year (70 Million)

So just looking at those items, we already manufacture and buy about 1.5 Billion units of those items yearly. So manufacturing battery packs at mass scale isn't unfeasible.

People upgrade phones once a year. Most people upgrade iPods, iPads, Tablets, PCs, Macs every two years. And upgrade cars every ten years. That's the cycle for most people.

So if everybody skipped upgrading their phone, ipod, ipad, tablet, PC, and Mac... for simply two years... and instead invested in the battery, that part of the equation will be solved. Then its the Solar Panel installation costs, which can be budgeted by holding off upgrading the car a little longer.

So it seems, this is a viable solution. Mostly viable for the top 5% wealthiest people, ie/ anybody living in a developed country that is self sufficient. It would be very helpful for those in remote locations. Though I'm not sure how it would help the other percentage of people who live in big cities in poor conditions like most people in South America, Middle East, India, China, South-East Asia in particular.

Hindsight is 20/20, if 50+ years ago, we focused on solar power and battery technology instead of nuclear power we probably would've funded and supplied the worldwide units. And Climate Change would be in a much healthier state than now, and it would be recovering year by year. The Atomic Bomb (Manhattan Project) is more devastating than I had anticipated.

7 trillion - 10 trillion even ...is nothing...hell the U.S. spends more annually.
The survival of our species...the ability of our future generations for at least 100's of thousands if not hundreds of millions of years to literally not suffer and struggle through a truly horrendous Anthropocene .. epoch of Man. Meaning we're it...pretty much all that is left ..other than what species we can "keep" alive...and those that are aggressive survivors...some insects, the jellies, rats ..etc..
As a species we see our reflected selves in our environment and "others"... than ourselves...meaning the bio-diverse companions we have always had with us. How mad will we go without them?..without our friends? ....with only a crowded planet ...no room to turn without seeing another human in front of you from over-crowding.
It really is two epochs in one...the Anthropocene - the Age of Man and the Eremozoic - the Age of Loneliness (meaning when other creatures are brushed aside or driven off the planet)
A horror no sum of money should be too big to stop.
The figures you mention are a pittance...hell any figure is a pittance when compared.

Nuclear has it's place and purpose.

The true evil is the laziness we have been afflicted with from oil.
The manpower and man hours of labour equivalent from a barrel of oil pulled out of the ground are far too tempting.
The speed technologically that oil has catapulted us ...as much as the damage done ecologically..is fascinating..

vs a quantum ... take the New York City phone book...ask both computers to find the phone number for say...Xavier Zifflewaite...
the standard comp starts at the alphabetical beginning with "A" and looks at each phone number in alphabetical sequence until it gets to Xavier.
the Quantum doesn't do that...the "here" - "not here" - "yet there" - "yet not there" - "yet at the same time in both places yet not at all" is more akin to say..visually watching Nicholas Cage in a particular scene in "Next"...(although it is just a linear concept compared ..it is a good visual comparison on a "human" level)

the quantum machine ...in it's way does the same thing...it looks at the entirety of the phone book ...outside and in ...and every phone number ..at once...you could say ..mirroring itself with multiple shadow versions of itself to find what it needs...and yet it doesn't do any of that.. and yet it does...yeah freaky-deaky ...
Passwords? Encryption? Modern forms of such will mean nothing but tissue paper...not even.. to a quantum...
Comparable to Nuclear weaponry? Hardly...quantum to nuclear bombs is as comparable as lightning striking vs a static charge from your carpet....It's the next "Big Cudgel" to beat with.
A quantum could easily ..launch, dismantle, detonate, or make a dud any and all Nuclear weapons on the planet in less time than a heart beats...no security ..no passwords, no "walls" of any kind, nor encryption would stop it.
The ramifications for communications is...when two quantum computers chat with each other...there is no time lag with distance...in essence..if you could put a quantum computer on the other side of the universe ...it would have no prob chatting with one here ...anymore than me chatting to someone in the same room of my house.
