Unfortunately, I have the most obvious one (Occam's razor). Yes, they ran out of money; and yes, it's fully plausible they saw it coming already in June, when it was clear that the initial plan of the tablet would require (costly) corrections, in order to be effective. Back in June / July, Given the (just) announced partnership AND an almost finalized product, it would be crazy however, for an investor who already has placed the investment quota of money on the table by the way, to pull out just in that moment when fruits of the work start to materialize. They already paid for it!!

However, consider then after June; Jolla requires MORE money (on top of the initial investment) to complete the tablet project; the rolling in numbers of sold OTH are definitely not helping to convince the main investor to bet on the tablet; also, they have given already, so you cant expect them to pinch in for more, can you? Result? Jolla struggles with the tablet project due to funds running low for 6 bloody months! I have heard from different sources Sailors at Jolla have been working for FREE without pay for many months (not official tho so just a rumor). Fast forward to December. Jolla (via Antti) re-confirmed the partnership with Intex. The devices, however, were postponed.
I think this is the main reason for the investor to quit.

Do you really believe that Jolla would have bothered to share such tiny detail with Intex? Oh, sancta simplicitas! Of course they kept quiet and said nothing, just like they said nothing to you. And so Intex, unaware of the situation, agreed to the deal. It had nothing to do with the withdrawal of the investment.

There is another thing I did not mention. It was implied but some people need things spelled out explicitly. It may not have been what happened that drove the investor away. It may have been what did not. Can you think of anything that was supposed to be done by May but was not? Anything at all?
The Tablet?
Keep in mind, that's a new product. I do not know if you are familiar with product development, but it is very common to have issues on the way. I would almost go as far as that some bumps on the road are 100% expected; and I believe this scenario was perhaps underestimated @ jolla (jay for armchairing!!)

Also, about startups, have you worked in one? Yes, it can be as hectic as having to beg for money day in and day out ; or you can be lucky, and have a dareful investor, who believes in what you are selling, and pushes you the requested funding you require from him in one / multiple go's. Been there myself. Crappy situations when you fly high and your burning rate is high.

And about Intex; Intex is not the one who pulled out, right (already mentioned that the Intex partnership was still confirmed @ SLUSH 2015)? The investor did.

Now do not get me wrong; I am not delusional; I am as disappointed as everyone in this thread. But the last word has not been spoken yet. I am not confident, but hoping is all I can do for the moment. And bracing for more disappointment, of course .

Being a startup do not in any give you rights to careless with money or customers. Given the situation Jolla had money, customers by prioritize other things, no way you can convince me that they screwd us.

It was a demo product you guys say. That makes it even worse. It should be far easier...

I realized that myself, the moment I read Antti mentioning the tablet was a "spearhead" device (somewhere around Feb 2015 methinks).
Sounds familiar? I recall mr Elop using the same words for Harmattan at some point. Somehow, I got gutfeelings about my money being lost at that point already.

Put on a suit, listen to their bulls hit, then give them £10million

@tortoisedoc - Remember that Jolla got another $10m in December 2014, exactly the same as they were going for now. They were relying on that just as much as this new round. Imagine how cross everyone would have been they'd folded then, just after the Indiegogo. The crowdfunding money wouldn't have sustained them for long, if at all. It was tiny compared to the rest of the investment.
