1) GPS is great to have when you're not carrying your bluetooth GPS receiver. Lock-on times are ridiculous, but once it's locked it's a pretty good fix! When you're lost in the city you'll thank Deity that it's there even if it takes an eternity to connect.

2) My slider is firm, though I've heard others have had issues. None here tbh so *shrugs* no comment.

3) Battery life is as good as the N800. Literally no difference.

Recommendations:
Better transreflective screen - you can see it in the sunlight!

Smaller - I know it's only slightly smaller - but one thing that makes it better is that it's a square block - the N800 has that slight ebb at the edge which makes it awkward.

True USB OTG socket - if you have the cables there's no need to faff with USB scripts.

Keyboard - just don't "think about pressing the keys" - I mash away at them and it works and works well at that! On the train I can't type anything on the touchscreen, mashing away at the keypad is a Deitysend. I can type pretty quickly on it too! Despite that I still bought the iGo Stowaway for prolonged use since I can type much faster on a larger keyboard.

Mutlicoloured LED - The LED is already being used to relay status information. I imagine better use of the LED in the future with certain apps.

I'm not too fussed about not having the extra SD slot; nor the fact that it's MiniSD. ok - it is a little annoying - but I don't tend to carry terabytes of information around with me. If push came to shove it's easy enough to lug around another MicroSD card If shove came to shovier I'm thinking of plans to get a tiny MicroAB->USB-A angled dongle made up so I can plug in another MicroSD card reader (you can get some TINY ones that are a fraction larger than the MicroSD cards are themselves) or a large USB stick for OTG use...with that in mind you could attach a cheap 16+ GB usb stick for all those added extras and it still wouldn't be larger than the N800.

Onboard 2GB storage - more and more software will take this into account as it's guaranteed to be there on the N810.

FM Radio - don't miss it. It's a dying technology, here in the UK DAB radio will replace it and render FM useless.

Since getting the N810 my N800 has been pushed aside this saddens me but I find myself reaching out for the 810 instead.

Cons:
Price - the difference is SUBSTANTIAL. Would I pay for it....debatable; especially given that I have an N800. I got mine on the developer discount (thank you Nokia.)

GPS lock times are LOOONG. It'll get there eventually, but not quickly enough.

Keyboard is small - it's great to have it there, but I don't suggest typing war and peace on it.

No 2ndary SD slot - it'd be nicer to have another slot like the N800 just because. While we're at it it'd be nicer still to have 3, 4, 5, etc more slots

All I can say is that I now use the N810 with 8GB MicroSD (for a total of 10GB storage) all the time despite having an N800 with 16GB of storage and despite having an iGo and a bluetooth GPS that I can use for both.

Thanks for all the replies .

About the slow lock time with the build in GPS, it is personally something I can live with, since it is not going to replace any GPS unit, more to use as backup on rare accatins, it is more important that it is precise to me.

The only 1 mini sd slot is though one of the things that draws some doubt in getting the N810, but will still keep my N800, so it can be used as a mediacenter, and the N810 more at internet and email/im.

The price is also one of the conserns, but I hope it will be worth the money, and will gladely pay for the hw keyboard plus the slimmer design and better build quality, has no use for the fm radio since I use my cellphone as music player instead and it has fm radio plus a2dp which is a must for me when it comes to music listning (hate wires).

My plan is to order the N810 here when it is pay day, and then hope it will be here witin a few weeks (can't wait). Thanks again for all the replies, and hope it is as good as it sounds to be .

I have both n800 & n810 because n810 was sold at price almost the same as n800 at closing compusa, but I still like the n800 more. In comparison, the n810 is harder to hold; the gps is useless, and if you want to boot from mmc, you will have to clear the internal mmc and boot from there if you don't want to tie up the external card when connecting to pc to tranfer music, movies or whatever. Moreover, the keyboard is barely used. With $200 less in price, n800 is way better of a deal. For me with $400 price tag, the n810 is a rip off. If they both priced the same, I still pick the N800 b/c of the dual sd slot instead of a single miniSd on the n810. Besides the keyboard, the n810 is a downgrade of the n800, not an upgrade.

Yeah absolutely. Different usage profiles mean different requirements.

For me, I have had enough of having a pda style device without a hardware keyboard. I have tried multiple input solutions, including external keyboards, and a million stylus based input systems and none of them work satisfactorily.

So for me, the n800 simply isn't an option.

For someone less pedantic about data entry, or who doesn't want even slow gps, or wants the storage flexibility, then the n800 is the way to go.

For me - I want the keyboard, and I am happy with a slow lock gps, and perhaps even the cost of the gps upgrade.

It is really the storage flexibility that makes me hesitate. But that doesn't make it a choice between n800 or n810, it is a choice between n810 and sticking with my Windows Mobile pda which just infuriates me , and waiting for the next nit iteration - which may only bring wimax and leave the storage as is.

Well just ordered the N810 today, it was not in stock but found it at a ok price at cdon.com with nordic keyboard (with זרו which we use here in Denmark).

Strange that I cant really find any 8GB miniSD cards, only microSD with adapter, was hoping that Sandisk made them as UltraII but cannot find any UltraII cards bigger than 2GB (already has one of those). What do you guys use? is there any read/write speed to winn with tha faster cards or should I just go for the standard microSDHC?

Anybody knows if also in the N800 is faster to use the ExtremeIII SD cards? am thinking of getting some bigger for my baby .

You can use xmodmap to remap the keys so that the above chars replace some lesser used ones. Not ideal, though.

Unfortunately, I don't think DAB has long to live in the UK, either.

Not only does it use an old and very inefficient encoding, some stations are already deserting DAB and just doing an internet streaming presence. e.g. I believe both theJazz and Planet Rock are going next month.

And DAB's couple of dozen stations - if that - hardly compares with the thousands of streamed stations.

Try radioswissjazz.ch

Same here. In fact, I just sold the N800 because it only gathered dust since I got the N810.

The N810:
- Looks MUCH better
- Is just the right size
- Has the keyboard

However, I don't use GPS, as I bike to work :-)
(OTOH, I really would like to see usable startup times - yes, I have a car).

Possible improvements for a future "N820":
- Why miniSD? Better go microSD from the beginning and use the saved space to add the FM radio again. miniSD are scarce, microSD plentiful.
- Put the D-Pad back onto the main surface, so that it can be used without the full keyboard slided out
- Include a microUSB-USB adapter so that people can start using USB OTG from the beginning
