But they still have some value to offer in discount on possible future devices and possibly free access to payed services they might come up with.
I dont Jolla is ever going to build/supply another new hardware device, they can hardly say to another company buy our software and by the way please give a "special" discount to these old customers/supporters of ours. thanks.
Software is their only asset - one reason why they will NEVER open source it.
I personnel dont trust Jolla as a company, Thety have sadly lied to us so many times in thepast. I think the amount of Tablets is going to VERY VERY small, and the only reason they have bigged up the "special" is so that is spreads out the time period when people demand there cash back (Not IGG)
So, Jolla alone are to blame for their failure to deliver the tablet in accordance with the schedule given at the time of the crowdfunding campaign.
Weird reading, Jolla alone are to blame for trying, what are you attempting? Boycotting them because you did not get a freebie and because SDK is so hard to DL/install? Or more popcorn? Seriously
edit: luckily YTPlayer is feature complete and there is no more need for youtube app (especially as it works nicely in browser even, n900 is kind of lacking in that department since a year or two, but hey, bit more ram will fix it)

NEVER EVER, or like debian/redhat once it is mature and intex-like people/companies catch on there will be business in having experts supporting and developing it further. In current state with only jPhone sure, open sourcing is stupid, but with manufacturers thatg require support RHEL model kind of makes sense

I don't pretend to understand your incoherent rants, so I have no useful response.

Oh ok, just insert a popcorn gif, we know
In case you want to understand: marxian THE n900 hero coder decided to not support sailfishOS and jolla in any way, because downloading SDK is soooo hard

I don't support Sailfish because I don't have time for it in addition to the platforms I already support, and it doesn't offer me anything I don't already have. Also, I am broke as a result of spending much of my time working for free for the last 5 years (which I have no complaints about, since it was my choice), so I cannot afford to just discard my existing devices and replace them with the latest shiny every year.
As it happens, I installed the Sailfish SDK before the first Jolla device shipped, and spent a couple of weeks porting applications. I had screenshots of the results on my website at the time. However, I did not care much for Silica UI.
The fact is that I don't have any interest in smartphones. The N900 is an anomaly. I don't even use it as a phone. Once my N900 dies, my interest in mobile is over.

Care to write a post-mortem about it? Sorry, but you seemed like a few peeps here who are just annoyed by Jolla and never give good reasons. Also, can send you a phone+hwkbd so you can test your work in real life, maybe change your mind, or is Silica so broken in your opinion?
Ok...
I figured it out...
In the middle of the night last night...
I woke up from a dead sleep screaming Eureka!
I know what the special "surprise" is!...
Everyone involved from top to bottom is going to get something!
(except me of course...sadly I will get nothing for my folly of not flushing money away...)
Ok..
to backtrack...
I sussed it out...
1- They went tits-up ...err...I mean they are "restructuring"...
2- They somehow got no money now...((wish I could diarrhetically (this should really be a word) "run" through 10's of millions...personally I would find it challenging to spend it all...)....
3- Many unhappy peeps with no happy-fun-time-toys...
So what do they have to give?
I puzzled over this a long time....
and I know what it is...finally...
I figured it out!....
The surprise is....
they are going to give everyone...
store and warehouse shelving, stationary and staplers and paperclips...
I mean...
they DO have this stuff...
and they need to get rid of it...
it is costing them money storing it all...
So...it only stands to reason...
ship out parts of the corpse ...
then there is no cost in burial..
I cannot believe that in the last 8 hours there are more than 4 more NEW pages already in this thread and the day isn't even done yet...(only beginning on my timezoney)
Tragic waste of brain power here...
I completely agree with marxian.
If (heaven forbid) the neo never gets shipped...
That will be it for me..
welllllll
I may consider slumming it with a smartphone that runs plasma mobile....
but I consider that the only other candy option to n900's meat and potatoes...
and I mean that...
before I got my 1st n900...what was that 2011-ish?...I used a flip dumbphone...hell still used it for a long time even after getting my 1st n900...I have been very content getting my "tablet-on" so to speak...with my n8x0's before the n900 came into my life...
So it would be sad to watch my last n900 die and no successor ...(it should take a while...I have a few...) ...but it won't be the end of the universe...just this little corner of it.....then my primary focus will be back to my n8x0's....
enuff laffs for the present from this popcorn thread ...
I'll stop back in when the jokes start piling up again...
I'm off to "What's the best Handheld gnu/linux machine for 2016?"
thread...far more interesting...

Its not the same, Gnu/linux was originally "open", in the sense that there was not one single company that was selling linux. various companys then grew up from it , forking it, shipping a particular version, etc.
Jolla as a company only has "Sailfish", its not as they have said "its crown jewels" its their only jewels. I dont think Jolla as a company is trustworthy. They open it up, bang some one else will fork it, Hello new and better Sailfish - Goodbye Jolla.
Jolla had its stallmen and Torvalds but that boat has already sailed.
I think the tabletgate is going to cost Jolla dearly.
