But they have sold (some of) them already! Through the web shop, remember?
I also thought the "final solution" was odd. I would expect the web shop orders to be the first to receive the goods. Not only would that be (at least legally) more kosher, it would also be easier for Jolla logistically. Instead of sending the web shoppers the 100% refund they allegedly don't have, they can send them the tablets they do, saving (number of web shoppers) x (50% of refund price).
If Paypal have escrowed the funds (like they do for pre-orders), then Jolla don't have anything to gain by shipping tablets to webshoppers.
Either way they end up with X tablets shipped and Y€ left for refunds, which isn't enough.
Hm...
speculation...
perhaps the reason for Jolla abandoning the tablet has to do with the recent illuminating numbers...
Sales over the last quarter for the ipad were down 25%...(shocked to read it on slashdot yesterday...)
Nobody wants tablets anymore..
the lemmings appear to be running to phablets now...
the ipad concept is 10 yrs old now...
so the allure of the "different" and "novel" isn't there anymore now that so many have one..
Such is the way of fads....

Well, even amongst the web shoppers some would get the tablet (full value of purchase) and others would get the 1/2 refund with the promise of the remaining refund. Although maybe more kosher legally, as you say, I do not think it is equitable even amongst the web shoppers. I still prefer that everyone get the refund. If it is too much trouble to sell the 500 tablets maybe just have a random drawing for them or do something more creative. Also selecting those that ordered first in the campaign favors those locally. I bought one as soon as I read about it in the morning but still my order was around #1500. Oh, well, I'm not sure why I even bother. It is what it is and there is no perfect solution. Just another disappointment. Like the n950...
smartwatches...
hm..
well...
here in north am. I have seen a lot..(and I mean a lot..) of tv advertising ..especially in reality tv programming (not that I watch reality tv...my ex did...I unfortunately suffered in silence ...watching ...what I consider absolute garbage..our relationship I am sad to see fall apart...the horrid choice in viewing I am not sad to miss........but..I did notice this last year that ...) smart exercise watches / bands are becoming VERY popular...
but smartwatches...no....I don't ...I can't imagine that they'll take off like we would want them to...
since...
it would have happened already...IF the public really wanted them.
Sadly...
I see the phablet being the "latest" fad ...
and I doubt it will last a few years at best...
since..
the tablet aspect is too small...and the phone aspect too big...
I believe it will inevitably irritate the average consumer...
and hence the phablet will suffer a short-lived time atop the heap of fadish tech.
I do believe that the birth pangs of handheld devices are almost done.
Allll the probs ....alllll the good alll the bad...alll the disappointments...
Stepping back and looking at the big picture...
the war over desktops is long done...who won? Linux... essentially the enduser
the war over laptops too is pretty much done...
the os wars are almost over...
and in each situation...
the corporations come in...selling their pitch....selling their product...
offering what they offer...
and in each situation ...the tech disseminates ...
and then the corporations lose their advantage...
and they move on to more lucrative cattle pens...
I see the same thing happening with handhelds (from the tablet all the way down to wrist size ) now...
Hm...

I don't think that "nobody wants them" is the reason. Also, that is not because of the phablets. I like 5.5" on Xplay more than 4.5" on Jolla. But I still like to browse and play a lot more on my 10" Z2.
The thing is IMO that modern HW (even crappy MTK and other "never herd of" chipsets) is simply more capable and lasts longer. Or perform decent longer is better term. If you add to that rooting and custom ROMs for those who know and care about it and you can have one device for more years. I still don't see the reason to replace Z2 with Z4.

There it is.
No, seriously, the blog said that they are not able to get the parts anymore to produce more tablets so they likely do not have enough money to source new parts as it would also require more work with the tablet's hardware to make everything compatible again.
I'm sure they want to have their future partners to do their own tablets and only to provide the OS for them.
Why do we have to do stuff? Why can't Jolla just refund the card or Paypal via Indiegogo like regular www buissniess. I don't want to give these scam ers my credit card number.
