I have re-installed telegram plugin a few weeks ago after a re-install and indeed needed to do
    ln -s /telegram-purple.so /usr/lib/purple-2
    After that it worked.

You need to be root so use gainroot before executing. Your error seems to be caused by that.

I've been root, hence the #-sign, in my comment.

I tried it again today, and somehow it worked.
I don't know why, but it did.

    Thanks anyway.

the directories given by t-b are completely different. yes, inside /usr/lib/purple-2 I do have said .so-file; however, I never manually moved it there (I didn't install the plug-in via HAM but manually downloaded the package provided here a few pages earlier, if that makes any difference; but for what I can remember, the author 'claimed' to upload the exact same version to the repository).

(side-note: but I did use this 'check' to "optify" the file )

Why is there still a defect version in the repos after such a long time??????????

Every time I go online, it tells me there is a new version...if I install it, nothing does work anymore....

PLS FIX THIS, it is completely crap whats going on here!!!!!

sorry...seems I need a new mobile next time But N900 is annoying me more and more....its nice that here are still people updating something here and there - but in the end people want a working mobile, none of us - you do not want that, too - want to many of forum-posting that do not interest you to get something to work (again).
It was a nice mobile - but it gets more and more a useless constructionyard in my opinion, Not neccessary to mention the lack of a modern browser and so on....

However, thats not task here....rgodinez' solution works and everything is fine again here....for now

I reinstalled purple-protocol-telegram, but this didn't change the behaviour.

    Then I discovered telegram-purple.so was located at / , instead of /usr/lib/purple-2 .
    I've just created a link
    # ln -s /telegram-purple.so /usr/lib/purple-2

    and it works again.

    Did anyone observe this behaviour?

Is /telegram-purple.so the right place for the file?
would it have to be somewhere in /opt and linked or directly in /usr/lib/purple-2 ?

    Regards,
    Rafa.
    Thx, this work for me

I suggest to move the .so file in /opt/maemo/usr/lib/purple-2/telegram-purple.so and create the symlink in /usr/lib/purple-2/
