I may be wrong but that might have been the problem. A lack of clear rules leaves the topic open to interpretation. You did use the word 'bids' which kind of implies an auction. Auctions are usually won by the highest bidder.
That said, you did not set any rules and it was up to you to choose the buyer. As far as you are concerned, everything is fine.
I'm not a big fan of rules, but think there should be some in the ' buy and sell' thread. Simple things like pictures, condition, location and... price!
Leave all the auction nonsense to ebay, it just doesn't work here
