Then that begs the question, does your flashlight actually work?

    Let me get this right:
    • You keep making outrageous claims yet you have shown no evidence supporting it.
    • You missed some important information, such as that you tried full un/reinstall.
    • You expect different results from a random repackaged RPM, even though that RPM was originally installed from the same source you claim did not work for you.
    • You are happy to try random dconf commands, risking screwing up your system even more, rather than trying to think back what other random changes you had done to your system to screw it up in the first place.
    • We still do not know whether your LED works in other applications.
    Mind boggles.

BTW, the light does not depend on whether you are recording or not. It comes on the moment you tap the icon and off when you tap the other one or close Camera. If you closed Camera with the light on, it goes off but turns back on the next time you start Camera again.

I agree with @pichlo, most likely you have broken some other component (not jolla-camera) with some previous tweak.

YES, the damn light works!, but not in video mode!

Outrageous claims? with nothing to back it up?:, sounds more like I've committed a crime!, forget it, sorry I asked......"TAXI!".....

If you want something - you should do something.
    And so, you've made:
    - jolla-camera reinstall
    - dconf-command

One way ticket atm - hard reset.

    Problem solved.

    OP updated with fix.

No need for such drastic moves as total reset, I'm pleased to say!

    Thanks for everyone's input.

be careful, command suggested as "fix" will reset every builtin application settings, and some 3rd party also.

    Fix: a simple command in terminal;

    Code:
    dconf reset -f /
That seems a bit drastic, as it clears everything.

    I guess
    Code:
    dconf reset -f /apps/jolla-camera
might be a better place to start.
