I actually had not used a specific account while using cutetube2. However your post made me curious if it perhaps would matter if I did. So I re-activated the account I have. No joy.

I then removed any cutetube related files like in /home/user/.config and reinstalled cutetube2 and tried it with a youtube account activated. Again, it does find videos in various formats but they're impossible to open.

Thanks for your reply, I'm glad to hear not everyone has this problem.

I also confirm that cutetube2 no longer plays videos but downloading works.

yay! i wasn't aware downloading still works. of course it'd be great if playback works too, but at least (for me) this is better than nothing

Not every video has a stream to start with, according to cute, and those that have, seams to be playable at most when downloaded as 360p MP4 audio/video.
720p MP4 audio/video starts playback of both audio and video, but cuts out pretty much straight away, (something like a second plays) with the error saying it's not a compatible format. Ignoring the message and pressing the "play" icon again plays the next second, and so on. I'm guessing i need a better player then the default one at this point.
Neat that downloading works, i didn't even know that was a feature. Thanks.

pull request with the fix is on github https://github.com/marxoft/qyoutube/pull/4, it is up to marxian to make a new release.
