Wasn't chinook supposed to do that?

So it is more like 4.1 then - no major library changes?

No. That was planned for Diablo.

But other posters are correct-- in the flashing aspect, the new release is major... but in all other respects for the N800 and N810 it can be seen as minor.

Maemo 5 will be OS2009 IIRC.

Is there a "roadmap" style report/document on what major milestones are planned for these upcoming releases and what devices it will run on. I know diablo will run on n8x0, but will maemo 5?

Probably will, unless they drop support for N810 before an year rolls out.

I don't have the answers, brontide, sorry. Those are questions for maemo guys... are you on the developer's email list?

Here's hope Modest will be the default mail client Or maybe another tinymail client?
I too hope Modest replaces the default mail client in Diablo. That and in-place firmware upgrades would make it a must-have for me. It'll be nice not to have to restore from back-up all the time....

So, it sounds like Diablo maintains library/API backward compatibility. I hope the new SDK (if there is one) produces .deb packages that are also compatible with Chinook, to support "lazy" upgraders (and those who prefer Chinook). It didn't happen with the mistral-to-gregale upgrade, so I'm not too confident in that hope.
