It is also highly likely that's not enough; probably you'll need to build an adapter on a daughterboard which needs to fit inside the device enclosure.
I could probably do it as I have the skills and access to proper tools, but this is not something uninitiates should attempt as their first project
Well, if I had your skills I would offer to do it and post my experiences here... Would be fun to see it happen!

No I tried a couple of time when I traveled to china's e-markets, but I only managed to get a smile when I said Nokia.

Probably someone who used to work on sourcing parts could help...

    Hey guys,

Although I have been careful with it, my own N950 is also suffering from the same LCD issue. I'm kind of wondering what to do with it now.

Yes, I have used it to develop a bunch of stuff for Harmattan, and have helped a bunch of people to develop a bunch of other stuff. Then I also helped with Nemo to develop stuff that Jolla still uses now. So I guess it has been a good developer device for me.

However it has spent the past few years sitting in a drawer. I believe I did my part for the community, and then some. I don't plan to work on Harmattan anymore, and the device is too old for any relevant newer work. It's now just a piece of memorabilia.

I've been also reading about this on other threads, found a lot of flame, but no real answers.
So, does the original agreement with Nokia still apply? Who now is the "legal heir" to the agreement on Nokia's side? Did Nokia or Microsoft (or the Devil) come after anyone who has sold or given away their N950?
What do you guys think? What would you do with the N950? Would a broken N950 still sell?

In many/most jurisdictions there is a statute of limitations against collecting debts and ownership of property both chattel and real estate including a 'loaned' dev phone. That means after a few years there is no way to enforce the deal and so you can throw away or recycle/reuse(sell) the item which has been abandoned in your possession without any action by the owner acting like they still own the device.
Possession is sometimes called 9/10ths of the law and eventually it actually becomes presumed to legally be yours without legal remedy to a person or company who has abandoned the object or property.
IANAL so if you are really worried consult a lawyer or if you know the details of your statute of limitations law just consider it abandoned and enjoy your rights to do whatever you like once that statute of limitations has expired no matter what the sticker on the phone says.
Think of it like an old automobile that a friend leaves parked at your house, after disappearing for maybe three, seven, even ten years depending on the law you can have it towed away and recycled or sold to free up your parking area without fearing a lawsuit later, you do not have to guard this item forever.
I forget now, when did the N950s get loaned out?
Also remember that no matter the law a tight knit community like TMO where a few N950s were gifted/loaned to the top devs there will be jealousy and bad feelings when the not-gets see you selling your phone. You will hear whispers and shouts about you breaking a sacred oath to forever develop for this platform when you bound your soul to this N950 amulet.

Thanks, that explains it really clearly!

It was in August 2011, IIRC. So 6+ years ago now.

<STRIKE>So for Hungarians statute of limitations on claims looks to be five years.</STRIKE> Remember I am not a lawyer though, just an internet know-it-all.

damn, looks like it might not be so for Hungary actually form the link above.Ownership claims are perpetual and cannot be subject to Statutes of Limitation. Not sure what that means legally though with abandoned items.
DId devs have to sign a contract with Nokia?
Does anyone still have a copy of the contract terms?

I have a very faint memory of that time. I still have the email from Quim which congratulates on getting accepted into the program. It points to a lot of dead links now.

As far as I remember, there was an agreement on the Nokia developer site (now defunct) which we had to agree to. I don't remember whether or not we had to manually sign a contract (although agreeing to something digitally is legally equal to signing by hand it, as far as I know). I don't have a PDF in my inbox though (and I never ever delete these sort of emails, so probably I didn't get it in email), and the old developer site is now defunct, so I don't have the document.

Maybe somebody else who remembers it better could chime in?

Why not just ask Nokia to make a general statement about the N950. Maybe they will set it free or maybe they will call it back...

    Who should we ask?
Since Nokia sold its smartphone division, does this even belong with Nokia now?
