XperiFirm is not Windows-only. It is, however, developed using .NET, so you need to have mono installed to run it.
For Arch Linux, there's a xperia-flashtool package on AUR, which includes both the Flashtool and XperiFirm.

Well, you can get xperifirm to run under wine also.
It is still Windows though.
So, everyday users is better off using Windows.

No?
The official thread on XDA explicitly mentions Linux and OS X support. Also, Mono and Wine are two completely different things!
You are not running a Windows software on Linux. The software was developed to be cross platform.

Well, if you "used to work together with Xperia team on XDA", I will shut up. I have nothing more than a superficial knowledge of Mono/Wine, and I just came here to correct your statement that XperiaFirm was only available for Windows and one would need to run Windows to use it, as I knew it was not true, because I use it on my Linux machine.

I also said it will run under Wine (yes, needs proper config)
It is, however, a Windoze app!
So I repeat, for everyday user. Windoze is easier.
Since Xperifirm is Windoze only, you either need a Windoze avail, a VM, or DL files from elsewhere, probably less trusted places. Or, a helpful friend
