Hi. My phone has died and I am thinking of firing up my trusty old N900 (still the best phone I have had), but was wondering if it was safe to use the internet features. As I presume various parts of the software won't have been updated for many years, am I vulnerable to being hacked immediately?

Thanks in advance for any feedback or advice.

    Stu

Its the safest device on the internet. Right now around the world thousands of hackers are trying to find ways to beat iOS and Android security. Given that the only 3 users of the N900 are on this forum, you can be sure it is safe to use the N900 in the modern world. :-)

    Hi,

N900 is my main phone for 9 years now; I'm using it almost for everything and it wasn't hacked since then...

Thanks for the responses, looks like it will be my regular phone again for a while at least.

Last time I was around these parts was many years ago and a community repository was being maintained, I don't suppose that still exists?

@endsormeans is there something special about the Nexus 5 that makes it tinker-friendly?

And you can't get open many malicious websites with the browsers you have available. So that prevents many attacks too. Maybe an advice would be not to download any available game addons to browser from the web. Not sure if they are all safe.

Check CSSU installation guide from this forum. There you will find all the repos. Would suggest to choose testing option cause then you will get some things to work that would not work without it. And put testing repo if you want cutetube 2 to work properly while downloading youtube videos to watch. Atleast I needed that for that as well as for telegram through pidgin (which needs a lot to do if you gonna use it. I can give hints to that if you are about to try it). Opera testing and fennec are my main browsers on use cause have not been able to open many sites with microb.

There are some threads about perfect setup for N900. Search with that.
