Are you sure it doesn't work on 64bit linuxes?
I'll have to check that but I have a feeling I have used flasher on quite recent box that was running a 64bit kernel.
I assume the 64bit ubuntu has adaptation layer for legacy 32bit applications.

C:\program files(x86)maemo\flasher-3.5>
What now?
