    8. mosen, for use of color and gin and the geese on the move motif.

A lot of other great stuff this month as well. Two images of snowdrops, a nice change-of-season theme. And a nice threat of an alpine storm from Fellfrosch and his stitching skill.

And I gotta ask catbus, what's hanging on that tripod under a blanket of snow?

Always great fun to see where a theme of the month will take us.

I liked a lot robthebolds picture which has move and happening on it which points clearly to weather (Until this I have always read rothlebolt as the name wondering where does that come from. Same happened with endsormeans which I pronounced in my mind like en-dsormeans sounding the same as spartans. And we played as a kid whoodaareswins 1 and 2 games with c64. I was 25 when understood what the name meant.)

But my vote goes to mosen. Very nice colours and the message and prediction of weather with the birds, and the picture is just beautiful. Was difficult to accept a picture without snow to really talk about weather when here is so much snow. Context of the viewer affecting the experience before a picture, mental and physical context alike.

    3. Fellfrosch

I just cannot help myself. I love mountains and that is a really dramatic picture, if a bit dark. It clearly has a hint of some ominous weather looming.
But most of all, it has a mountain in it

I know it's a little bit dark. But I didn't want to alter the pic to much otherwise I would have loaded it into darktable. The problem with smartphone cameras is, that the dynamic range is mostly crap.
I just used hugin, because I don't like 16:9 portrait photos.

Regarding the mountains, expect me to have a mountain in the next contest pic. One safe point

I vote for pichlo. It reminds me of the not-so-winter temperatures around here. The background says 'Wait, there has to be some coldness and snow'. The foreground says 'Nope, don't count on it'.

the inspiration of the handle is the old US daily comic strip "Calvin and Hobbes," which was about a perpetually 6-year-old boy and his stuffed tiger. In a short episode spanning three strips, Calvin unsuccessfully attempts to get his mother, teacher, school principal, and dad to refer to him by his full title: "Calvin the Bold".

I miss that comic strip. I miss comic strips.

And boy was the snow and ice combo that day a PITA (we've got one more car than garage stalls). I was glad the Xperia X focus issues had improved with SFOS 3.xxx. I took at least 5 shots aiming the phone with "The Force" and was pleasantly surprised that more than one caught the trifecta of the action, the full extent of the subject and in sharp focus. Shooting that pic would have been impossible, though without the h/w shutter button given the need for heavy gloves.

A lantern with a candle inside.

    1. robthebold - (Sailfish X on Xperia X, stock camera, cropped on camera.)
The image is dynamic, captivating in the way the ice crystals billow from the scraper. The gate and the strong shadow on the background is a bit of a distraction.
    2. pichlo - Jolla Phone
The picture has a strange mood, the barren trees on the background contrast nicely with the blooming snowdrops on the foreground. The image would have benefitted from leaving the qall/post/whatever off from the right edge. And BTW the image is way too small for my taste, cannot really make up any detail in the flowers.
    3. Fellfrosch - (used hugin to blend two pics from my XperiaX)
Weather theme is really forward in this picture; the mountains and clouds really stand out. The reduced palette is a good choice here. Somehow the foreground is a bit blurry which makse the image look a bit odd. Is that because of the blending or does the constitution of snow somehow change from left to right on the foreground?
    5. Amboss - Resize done on PC, no other "optimization". Picture taken with Sailfish on X
The idea is the dirtiness, which is presented well. One can imagine driving in these conditions is extremely unsefe
However the technical execution is not to my taste, and the image is *way* too small to my taste.
    6. spag - Sony Xperia X v3.0.1.11, Gimp (to resize)
A bit darkish in tone but the main detail of the wing comes up well. I'd like to see some detail in the ground features below but it is impossible because the image is too small!
    7. Maemish - Bliss on an N900
Streetlight is a bit harsh here, and it looks to me the main feature might be slightly out of focus? The idea of wintery night is presented well however.
I'd like to have seen this in more detail, the image is too small.
    8. mosen - XA2 h4113 at 20.3Mpix. Manually adjusted levels and reduced to 90% jpeg in gimp
Tilting the camera enhances the feel of a wide-angle shot, and the sky color scaling is nice. The absolutely huge bird formation and theway they are flying in formation is impressive.
    9. catbus - N9
Really wintery and moody capture. greyscale enhances the feel of the weather. Too bad the image is too small.
    10. eson - Xperia X stock photo app
The twin snowdrops are a nice find, indeed it looks like they are posturing the same way. The image would have been better with a bit tighter cropping to reduce the effect of other features in the image.

And as for my choice of the winner; I go for the dynamic picture this time and give my vote to robthebold

Oh no I missed it! The end of the month was to busy for me.

At least I get to enjoy your beautiful pictures

My vote goes to 9 catbus. For me it is the one picture to really capture "weather in progress"
