Just saw this about developing apps for Librem 5. Still don't know how to go about things. Will they provide a SDK? Maybe part 2 will provide answers..

EDIT: Oops! There is a link that shows how to set up computer to develop apps. Anybody have success?

Trying to understand if this post means things are going well or to expect further delays.. I mean it shows some progress, but it is not clear to me how far they really have go to get a reasonably good working device out. Any thoughts?

I think the main take away from that post is that they haven't finished the board schematics yet for the device.

Ya, that's my read as well.

I'm guessing the the JDLL referred to is the free software conference in Lyon last month . . . anyone here see Purism booth/reps there?

It sounds like they're making hardware progress, but very slowly. A Q3 2019 release seems awfully optimistic right now. I haven't seen an update in that timing since the April 9 post, has there been one buried that I missed? (And hardware design is always a cultural education in Chinese holidays. They say no learning is wasted . . .)

    Discussion about purism:

Okey... they are a bit negative but they have some valid points.....
    https://youtu.be/3QNhQpuCnC0?t=2770

But some of the bashing is just plain wrong: I mean comparing the phone with android is just plain dumb.
Comparing other android HW with librem5 is also just plain dumb and /facepalm.

    BUT:

I still have the devkit and it still is kind of alpha state.

touch/gfx lagish as hell. phosh is a joke I mean just Why, just why invente the wheel its just will not work.

I also tried plasmamobile a little better but far from usable because of the lagish GFX and so on.

Yes, that really is bad. I also thought what the hell when read that last week.

I mean it takes at least 2 months but probably more, to get all those chips and sensors etc. And they STILL has not even decided what camera and how much RAM etc.. I mean cmon!?

If you mean an sdk like merproject or sailfish you should probably forget it for now.

They use an deprecated tool, vmdeboostrap, when create and image to put on the devkit. So no build environment for PC at least not what I have seen.

What I done is make my own build environment by first I used something called debos. But since I want to learn Rust i ported debos to rust and then create my own build environment from that. After image created you just chroot to and git clone phosh etc... from source.puri.sm etc inside the chroot and build to build stuff from PC via qemu-arm...
