I personally have zero complaint with ubports...
    They are an active os....
    they deal with their issues.
works great for me on my nexus 5
supported for the fairphone 2 and one plus one..as well.
it isn't a "going nowhere" os.
    unlike ...sfos...
    which is where exactly?
    and doing how well exactly?
    ("glub glub")

    Gerbick!!!!
Hey man ...haven't seen you for a long time...
    Happy to see you..

    Hope you are well...

Nah there are things like Wireguard, which works on Sailfish, but it doesn't on Ubuntu Touch. Also, that's not true that Sailfish isn't going anywhere. Aurora, which is basically Russian Sailfish, is under heavy development. And Sailfish runs ok on those Sony devices too. I could live with Ubuntu Touch too, but the issues for me are the same: Missing native apps I do have on android.

I completely agree with the missing native apps that are on android ...
that is an inevitable though...considering the behemoth droid is... and the user base of droid.

I think of it akin to migrating from windows to linux...
Windows has a ton of stuff..whereas linux doesn't compare (at this point) (and sure there is virtual for windows and anbox for droid...still...)
Way back when I first migrated ...it wasn't about having less or doing without...
My mentality was that I needed to extricate myself from windows ...from "must having" that bound me to windows.
(of course I still use windows for a variety of touch and penabled programs for work ...simply because of the variety and that they are more advanced and simply work ..since there is not the base of end users in linux to support advancements...but everything else I do is linux driven....
Likewise ..I still use droid ..on one of my nexus 5s ..for those applications which are important ...but spend the other 9/10 ths of my time on UT on another nexus 5... Sure it is easier and more convenient all around to just use 1 os for device and just 1 os for pc ...but I have no desire to have a choice between ... either a hobbled experience due to lack of available applications ...yet have a better safer and more control over my experience...
    or ..
everything I need.... at the cost of safety, privacy, self reliance, and my soul.
So I choose the best of both worlds without the worst parts of either.

It appears increasing that these are the exact kind of choices that everyone has nowadays ...and that isn't about to go away anytime soon...
Not until there are seamless ways of integrating dockers or boxes or what have you ...into the structure of an os so it is a fluid experience ...than the trial it is at current.)

It does fall in line with so many past examples of other completely different and separate endeavours ...

    It may be grumbling...possibly.
But I doubt it is ALL hearsay....there is just too much from different sources for there not to be far more than a grain of truth to what is being said.

All I can say if it is a paper dragon...
I feel REEEEEAAALLLLYYYY bad for those who invested funds time and effort into it...

And if it is a paper dragon ....
whatever you do DON'T run out the door to avoid the fire!

WRT smartphones & FLOSS, there's so much Hype (fanboyism) going on.
    And FUD.
    And sheer tinfoilhattery.
I don't read techrights anymore; IMO it falls into one of the latter categories. Not that I totally disagree with them, but the way it's presented - outrage culture - no, thanks.

This article however (and the two that follow up) is sane. Read it - all of it.

Having smallish ARM devices that run some sort of GNU/Linux, have a touchscreen & the hardware & drivers to make phone calls and have mobile internet, but lack any sort of solid build, heat dissipation and battery life - that's nothing new.
And apparently that's how far Purism have come in the past years. Add to that the minutely detailed description of lies, deceptions and incongruities listed in the article trilogy, all I can do is SMH and thank dog I did not put down the 6 or 700 credits back then.

But yeah, we shall see... when there's a review of someone actually using that device as intended, please give us a shout!
I'm placing a bet that this will not happen before next spring, if ever.

Has anyone been interested of the mega65 phone? The models someone created were awesome looking and the idea was just brilliant.
