Nokia N9 1.2 how to update easily for layman?

    Hi All,

I'm a new owner of "new" Nokia N9 with MeeGo 1.2 version of firmware.

Can someone advise me how to easily upgrade to newer version?

I admit I'm a layman in such cases

I tried to use it with Nokia Software Recovery Tool, but it seems to be useless - it didn't find anything.

    Regards!

You may have to install latest generic PR1.3 firmware using Harmattan flasher, but a good place to start is:http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...38&postcount=1

How usable the N9 is? I have never used one or even held in my hand. Don't know at all how updated it is with ssl/tsl and browsers etc.

I still use mine daily, albeit as one of my multiple phones
(N900 [in bag, mainly ssh], Droid4 Android [in Pocket, Signal + Browsing + Hotspot] and Nokia 808 Pureview [in bag, Pictures])

Besides my Droid 4 its my main phone. Browsing is nearly impossible due to missing SSL. A good 70% of bigger sites will not be accessible. Another 10% cannot be handled by the stock browser, but only by Opera.

Using it for calling, sms, navigation, reading, stargazing, music and videos is still very much possible. The Galaxy of Fire Game it came with is awesome.

My main uses for it are:
    • Reading: its OLED screen and low weight are awesome for that.
    • Navigation: Offline maps are awesome, responsive and do not drain the battery, but last update was 2015 so problems are starting to arise.
    • Watching TV shows: Converting them on PC and enjoying on the OLED screen.
    • Public Transport: Fahrplan is still a big joy to use, thank you smurfy!
    • Mail: N900 has dead modem, so N9 it is, no way Android gets access to my mail.
    • Alarm Clock, FM Radio, Music, Stellarium

Would browser, SSL and maps be up to date it would still be my main phone. But because of these things I can't recommend it anymore, even though I still love it.

They are sometimes on Aliexpress for 30€.

You mean your N900 has dead modem? I use N900 mail with imap and so glad it works fine. Have thought some times N9 to buy (with 20Eur offers) but glad I didn't then, if it is that unsupported. With N900 I have tls 1.2 on Opera and yes, some sites won't open, but then Netsurf 3.9 through easy debbie helps on that. That is a fast browser but not handling java and stuff and no video streaming either so N900 lacks with a browser but hoping that Leste would change that a bit.
