I am making feeble attempts to cross-compile 'PyX' for OS2008, and one obstacle that I am running into -- that might be related to 'maemotex' -- is the following error:

RuntimeError: cannot find font mapping file 'psfonts.map'

From what I have read, it is the 'responsibility' of 'TeX/LaTeX' to create this file. True? It doesn't appear to exist on my system after installing 'maemotex'.

Please help! If I am ultimately successful, then I will be able to provide 'PyX' to the community. This 'tex' stuff is totally alien to me

Yes.

It doesn't appear to exist on my system after installing 'maemotex'.
That's the question: Does it really not exists or will it just not be found, e.g. because of missing environment variables?

I'll give maemotex a try this evening and report...

sommerfee: I am fairly sure that I used a 'find' command to traverse the entire file system looking for 'psfonts.map', but could not find it.

I have no idea if a re-packaging of 'maemotex' with the missing file will solve my 'PyX' porting problem, but it would sure be cool if it did

No-one has answered this - I've downloaded maemotex and pdflatex works beautifully, with included images, but I can't find bibtex - does anyone know if it's available for maemo? Or has it installed itself somewhere obscure? pdflatex installed itself in /usr/bin as you would expect.

If the package was installed from a deb (or repository), then you can list which files were installed with 'dpkg -L package-name' (in an xterm). You can also use 'dpkg --list' (e.g. with 'grep tex') to find the package name(s) of interest.

$ dpkg -L maemotex | grep bibtex
/usr/local/maemotex/070802/bin/armel-maemo/bibtex

to make it easier to find, try
$ root
(or however you have set up to gainroot)
$ ln -s /usr/local/maemotex/070802/bin/armel-maemo/bibtex /usr/bin/bibtex

after which you should be able to just do
$ bibtex <filename>
