Hi,

I tried to find a definitive answer, but couldn't. Is there a way to run the sd bus in high speed mode at 48 mhz on the n800 with os2008. Or it isn't any more needed? Everything I found seems to be os2007 related...

Thank you.

Yes, it is possible in the same way as in OS2007. However currently there is one bug/feature of the kernel tied to frequency scaling. At lower CPU speeds mmc speed goes down too (by mistake?).

Umm, where did you look? The primary supplier of high speed SD/MMC kernels for OS2007 has kernel for OS2008 and discussed this issue too
http://intr.overt.org/blog/?p=67

OS2008 kernels on my site has this mode enabled too. The change is trivial see
http://intr.overt.org/2.2008.50-mmc-...highspeed.diff

Also one related note - high speed mode may cause higher power drain in total. Specification for many cards mentions higher maximum current when in high-speed mode. One example - page 3 of
http://www.transcendusa.com/support/...4~16GSDHC6.pdf
100 vs 200 mA. True that data are transferred twice as fast so the total over time may be similar but still ...

Am I right to understand from:

that the patch is not very useful right now? Since it slows down with the cpu?

thanx for the quick reply

I don't think it slowed down my CPU and it did marginally speed up my SD card (although no where close to my Extreme SD III rated write speeds) the main thing it effected speed wise is the speed my battery drained. I don't *think* it ever went into power save mode throughout the day of sitting on my desk idle. I then later recharged, left the house for a few hours (not using it) and again it is drained. Perhaps I have something else to account for this, but I am a bit wary about this patch ATM.

Semi-relevant question: Is there an unpatched kernel binary someone has out there somewhere that I could grab to reflash back?

Looks unrelated. This patch does not affect anything when sd/mmc card is not actively used.

Yes.

You can extract the original one from firmware .bin image via linux flasher.
Code:
flasher-3.0 -u -F firmwareimage.bin
