So you've installed several heavy-duty apps, but the header says you can't install any apps. It seems contradictory to me.

Those are apps I installed around 6 months ago and I haven't used the tablet since. Also, I RMA'd my original tablet and put my card from it into the new one so not sure of what kind of effect that could have if any. Is the re-flashing something that's hard to do/risky?

TheMovieLife, you asked: "Is the re-flashing something that's hard to do/risky?"

It's very easy. Go here. But first do a backup. Look in your Settings (from the main menu) for it. When you're done flashing, do a restore, but first make sure you're online.

So the flashing itself is super-easy, and if you're happy to return to a like-new state, it's a no-brainer. The only problem could be with recovering what you had installed or created.

My apps didn't re-install all that great -- some had trouble after the restore, and others just didn't get installed at all. So I recommend that in addition to doing backup you write a list of what you have that resides on the flash memory. Principally that's applications, which you've already listed. My experience has been that the settings carry over well through restore, but you might write out a list of what they are, too, insofar as they matter much to you. Before flashing, it also would be prudent, I guess, to use File Manager to copy or move any documents from the internal flash to your mmc.

Hmm, you're probably moving from os2007, yes? I know less about that since I've always been on os2008. So if you move to 2008 from 2007, some of what I say here may not apply. In any event, the flashing itself will be easy.

Moving the SD card from the old to the new shouldn't matter at all.

What I've said about preparing may be overkill, since it really is easy to flash the device.

Thanks, geraldko. that's exactly what i wanted. i reflashed and everything works great. i also installed the wifi bugfix i didn't know about until today. i have a few guides for the OS swap and I can't get past the e2fsprogs install. I searched around and found some other people with 404 problems. I changed the repository to gregale and it still didn't work. Also I couldn't find e2fsprogs in the add program application.

Also, I don't know much about terminals. When there are several lines of input, do I type each one, then press enter, then move on to the next one?

I have given up, at least for now, on dual-booting (if that's what you mean by the "OS swap"). I accomplished it once but couldn't get it again after the crash and I'm not sure it's worth it (for me).

I take it you've discovered the Red Pill Mode? That might be what is hiding e2fsprogs. You can find the right repository by going to gronmayer repositories and searching for it. At least for Chinook (os2008) you don't need gregale.

"Also, I don't know much about terminals. When there are several lines of input [in the instructions provided in a post in these forums], do I type each one, then press enter, then move on to the next one?" Yes.

I'm using a 770 tablet and only trying to use OS 2006, just want to run it from the MMC. I tried red pill mode and still could not find the e2fsprogs. The error I get when trying to install it from the xterm is:

ldconfig: can't open configuration file /etc/ld.so.conf: no such file or directory.

I have wget installed.

themovielife, you're over my head now. It's probably time for you to take your questions to one of the cloning-os-to-mmc threads, like this one or this.

If anyone seeing this has anything to tell me about running fsck, my questions remain.
