For the sound problem, use xterm or ssh and cp blank wav files (made in notepad on your pc, but renamed to .wav) to the folder where it's looking for sound.I did, fixed my problem

I didn't do anything special. To be honest, I haven't actually chatted with anybody over the transport on the 770, I just see them as online in the contact list and assume that it works.

i in a bold, dumb move erase gaim insted of the dev include files. And only to find that it is remove from maemo hackrs repository. anyone have a deb package, or know anything about this???

hcweb, I did the same thing too. doh. I think they are working out bugs or something, don't worry, it will be back soon i'm sure

Well, I tried that. But they don't seem to play anyways, so blank files will take up less space.

now i have chatted with someone using an msn jabber transport and it worked fine and i didn't have to log in to the transport. maybe it depends on the server the transport is on. i'm using jabberland.com

Just a heads up, Gaim 1.5.0-4 is out 6/16/06. has fixed some issues and added others. You can download it through your application manager on the 770. You must add new repositorys from http://maemo-hackers.org/wiki/MaemoGaim the page explains the rest. I requested in a bug ticket that the popup window that pops up when you try to select a smiley be fixed and it was. You have to love this platform and the developers that make it happen. Nice to thank them on occasion as well.

I can't get the libcrpyt and libgpg error libraries to come up as available to install from the second repository. Anybody else?

They don't have to show up. Just install gaim after those repositories are added like it says to. Worked fine for me. MSN too.
