If they want to really make them popular they should try to lower the cost. I know alot of people who love the idea but just are unwilling to put $350 down on something that does one thing really really well and has no pda funtionality. If it came with a calander or some other application it would really increase sales. Im not saying thay should leave the realm of an internet tablet, just make it so it has some extra bragging rights. That would also silence the critics.

Cootly - the only way I see that working is if they packed enough juice into a built in solenoid that would allow the space-time continuum to fold - like on 'click'

How long do you guys think until there will be a successor to the 770?

Given they've only just started talking about the possibility of new hardware and what it might feature, and the lead time for development, I'd say there won't be anything this year. I'd be surprised if there's announcement of a successor this year, too.

Of course, I'm often surprised ;-)

I'd chimed in on this a long time ago but here goes:

I don't agree with bundling a billion extra devices into the 770. It's excellent all around as is. The cost is kept low and it maintains a lot of the functionality that more expensive products do.

Two things they can leverage:

Bluetooth: If they're going to package a working webcam into the existing form factor then they could just as well dump out a battery powered bluetooth one. How cool would that be? Put the camera on a table, stand in front of it, and use the 770 to take the picture from a few feet away. Same would work with speakers, etc. And think of all the pics that would be floating around with 770's in them. Now that's product placement!

External peripherals: A powered adapter (from Nokia, not the homebrew kind) that would allow plugging in USB storage devices and supported USB peripherals like keyboards, etc. I've got a 40GB mp3 player and would love to have that in my pocket connected to my 770 to watch movies or store data on.

Would anybody really mind sitting down in a coffee shop, placing a small MP3 player on the table connected via a 1 foot USB cable, laying down a bluetooth mini keyboard, and using the device to their heart's content? I've got more than one pocket. I normally carry around both devices anyway, I would love to pair 'em together.

It could incorporate a lot of laptop functionality but in a modular fashion. If your HDD goes, it's just your HDD. If you don't need that much space, you don't have to buy it. Consumer choice. Perfect.

Yeah, connected to my iPod, it would boost the device's usefulness immensely.

Even better would be if you could somehow boost the CPU or the RAM (besides enabling swap) in modular fashion, but eh.

This is such a no brainer. More memory and faster processor. Better looking screen, stylus that pops in an out with the cover on...

And maybe an SD/RS-MMC card slot to give more storage options. I'd also like to see a scroll wheel or mouse-like controll like the new T-Mobile Sidekick 3 has.

Why .ogg format is not supported? I thought by default linux should have .ogg support!
