What are other people experiencing regarding battery life on their N800s?

I've been testing battery life while running a specific application, and I can get 24-26 hours of use on a full battery charge with a new N800.

However, with a unit that's 3-4 months old, with fairly heavy use during that period, the battery life running the same application is maybe only 12-14 hours.

I realize different applications tax the N800 differently - I'm more interested in how quickly the battery seemed to degrade.

Is this pretty typical wear on the battery?

Thanks in advance!

yeah i ve been using the n800 quite a while and i see a drastic change in battery life.
It shows full and then after 1-2 hours it just suddenly out of the blue says battery low. I ve purchased a used nokia original battery and it is slightly better but the same. I think keeping the unit on charging a long while drastically affects the batteries.

All cellphones and cameras use the same 3.7v LiIon bettery technology and they all degrade at the same rate. I got a couple aftermarket batteries that costed me $6-8 and they perform as well as the Nokia one.

I wish I could get 24 hours off a single charge. Couldn't get that when it was brand new.

My 13 month old battery seems to work essentially as well as it did 13 months ago. The trick is to _not_ discharge the battery unless absolutely necessary. Charge whenever you can.

I too have noticed an apparent degradation in my 4 month old N810 battery.

While I've heard that what TA-t3 says is true, unfortunately it's not always practical/possible. When I'm needing/using my N810 the most is when I'm not near a power outlet to keep it charged. I do try to use my external battery pack if I'm using WiFi and BT keyboard but that only serves to keep the battery at the same level it was when I started - it won't increase the charge on the battery.

Also unfortunately for N810 users - spare BP-4L batteries are NOT plentiful and cheap

The n810 BP-4L battery is a LiPo (Lithium Polymer). They are light and have a large capacity, but degrade when discharged.

You can find information on LiPo batteries on RC Heli/Plane forums. Be careful on these forums, rc helicopters are addictive and expensive, heh.

I have had my N810 for exactly 4 months now, and suddenly from 1 day back, I started seeing this huge degadation in battery life.
Now my battery runs out in a day.

I just chaged to full yesterday, and today at office at lunch it weas a half point - with only 20 mins of usage with BT on in between.
As I left office for home and plugged in my headphones to listen to music on the way back, I see that it had shut off totally and would't power back on. No charge left. Nada.

Pretty dissapointing this is,

Is it really the battery which just switched over to "degrade" mode overnight, or some app I installed (rdesktop / omWeather new version etc) which might be the culprit here ?

I mean even till a 3 days back it kept a charge for at least 2 days.

Unless you left it in the car at 120°F for 12 hours or shorted it and fast charged it a few dozen times while you were sleeping, there's no way this is a battery issue.

Obviously something is using a lot of CPU in the background (one of the pitfalls of the demand-oriented powersaving model).

load-applet-run (or another CPU load applet) is invaluable in detecting these kind of problems.
