I received mine from Amazon 2/12 and got it on 2/13 (I paid the $18 for overnight shipping...I mean why not right?) But it has worked like a champ the whole time. I have the included SD card in the internal slot and an 8GB Adata Class 6 card in the external slot.

I am wondering if this issue being described is limited to systems using the mini-SD in the included adapter. If so, I have had flaky adapters for MemorySticks from Sony that caused a system halt & core dump. The card had to be in the adapter just ever so to prevent the problem. Perhaps that might be the issue here? Forgive me is this has already been considered as I have not read through everything here. But, I have always found the most seemingly innocuous components can be the one causing an issue. An improperly seated card could easily be the culprit.

I think you found the solution when you mentioned no issues when the card is out of the machine. Make sure the mini-SD is perfectly inserted into the adapter and the adapter is fully seated in the internal slot. Also, you might try running with the included card in the external slot and see what happens.

Well, I'm sad to say I'm returning mine. I had two other SD cards, a 1GB and a 4GB. I formatted both just to be sure and no matter which slot I put them in, it would crap out on me as soon as I tried to access it.

This also caused the unfortunate problem of not being able to open the Maps application since it has to write folders to the SD card to hold it's maps when it starts up.

Also, when I tried to format the SD card from inside the unit, the card would just disappear and it would say there was no SD card in the slot.

Another VERY weird thing was that if I tried to us Maemo Mapper with my bluetooth GPS, it would reboot the unit. It would ask if I wanted to pair the two devices and as soon as I did, it would reboot.

So now I'm in mourning. I really liked this thing and was looking forward to many days of fun and utility...

Maybe I will get one again in a couple of months...

Incidentally, the amazon.com people seemed to recognize the N800 and had a "not another one of those!" sort of tone in their voice when I told them what I was trying to return. They apologized sincerly and are going to pay the shipping back for me.

Hey sorry for not reporting back on how the upgrade process went. I never got a chance to upgrade. The day before I was supposed to upgrade I got mugged and the police returned my Tablet this week and so I finally got around to trying to update the tablet today. But this time it refuses to start up! I've bin charging it for about 6 hours now. I will check in the morning and see if it starts up
