With the N800 OS2008 you can use Gmail via the web.
It should be nice to have Gmail via the N800 Email program.
    Is this possible?
    I can’t overcome the message:
"Error in socket operation". If using SSL encrypted e-mail, disable SSL and try again.
    My settings are as below.

Your help in this should be much appreciated.

    Regards,

    ==================
On gmail.com "Settings" "Forwarding & POP", "Enable POP",
    On N800,
    "New account".
    User name, "name@gmail.com"
    Email Address: "name@gmail.com"
    Incoming Server "pop.googlemail.com".
    Outgoing Server "smtp.googlemail.com"
    "Advanced".
    Password Authentication "Normal".
    Security SSL (POP3S).
    Incoming Email Port 995
    Outgoing:
    SMTP Authentication "Login".
    User Name "name@gmail.com".
    Security: SSL.
    Outgoing Email Port: 465.
On the Security tab: all the boxes are unticked.

    Yes it is possible.

Not completely sure about the security tab boxes you left unticked.

Don't have my N800 here right now so I can't compare it to my settings.

Or try Modest ... it has a "Gmail profile" with the right configuration.

Why not use imap. I used to use pop3..... but i am currently on imap. Try with imap and see if it works. By the way the email program is absolutely crappy and i think pop3 worked better than imap for me.

You can use the settings for iphone.... they worked for me. They are on the google page.

IMAP never worked for me on the internal mail client.
With Modest Imap and POP works nearly perfect.

Hmm...think I haven't used it since the last update so I'm not sure about that.
At least it's not reseting my N800 like the internal client did sometimes when retrieving Gmail Imap...

    As suggested, I installed Modest.
    But still no success.
    Now I get the message:
Unable to connect to pop.googlemail.com. Server name or port number may be incorrect.

    Used settings:
    Incoming Server "pop.googlemail.com".

Modest is currently broken, as far as I'm concerned it's been broken for a month or so at one level or another. I hope they fix it soon.

EDIT: I should say that for gmail access the only reliable way I have is via the web browser. I have been using Modest for over a month now and it's ability to work and not crash has been spotty at best. At least it's better than the built in client that doesn't work at all.

    hey guys

modest is broken since the last update. a new update is expected in a few days that will fix the gmail problem.(according to the developer something is wrong with the regression, beats me if i know what that is!)

personally i like to use pop because i find it faster! but i hate that whenever i send an email on my webmail it has to show up on my n800 as a new message!
