HAve hit a problem using Vim-Tiny, it seems to not want to recognise the Escape key, which is a bit of a bind when you want to save a file.

I don't believe it's a hardware problem as the key works fine elsewhere, just apparently not in Vim.

Has anyone experienced this before of got any ideas?

Machine is running the updated 2005 OS and Vim-Tiny was downloaded and installed this evening.

Which Xterm are you using? There's a version which changes the escape key into being a meta-key which needs to be pressed twice to pass through "Escape" itself.

I'm running xterm from http://770.fs-security.com/xterm/

And I just realised something really wierd is going on. Pressing escape takes Vim out of Insert mode, but no matter how many times I press it, refuses to bring up command mode.

Umm... you see that corner over there? I'll be standing in it if that's okay

It's amazing how something you do instinctivly on a regular keyboard just leaves you when you use a new device.

Thanks for all your help.

(guess who just typed :wq after typing his name! )

it's the circle with the arrow. on the n800 at least.

Thank you very much, but I don't see a circle with an arrow. I am using the N800, in xterm, running VIM. The closest to that I see is the at sign, the copyright sign, and the circle-r sign. I've looked at the Common keys, the Symbols, the Accents a-m and the Accents n-z.

ah, sorry... I meant the button on the side of the N800 with the half-circle arrow corresponds to escape on the keyboard.

all the buttons are keyboard keys. + = F7, - = F8, the one in the middle of them is F6, the power button is Execute, the house is F5, the menu is F4, the center button is return and the up, down, left and right are all the same as the corresponding arrow keys on the keyboard.

EDIT: typos.
