jxvf is a parameters, it does not reside anywhere, perhaps? I only type the /usr/bin/tar, it already gave me Permission denied. Maybe the tar I made is not good?

I thought about that last night. However, i thought +x is only need for .sh script. I will give it a shot when I am home. Thanks again for the great apps, I cant wait to try this on N810 with a keyboard.

Edit: Got it. Up and running on N800. I took the microSD out and snapped on an N810, OMG, it is faster and prettier (I know it is the same OS). Thanks, PGB.
As usual, I made a step by step instructions, mainly for myself in case I have to do it again some time in the future. This v2 in fact is easier to install compared to the previous one.
Step by step KDE3.5.8 v2 Beta Testers (SD Boot)

I am using a 4G SD card, internal (open battery cover for access, mmc2 for N800, or external mmc1 for N810 behind kick stand). First make a SD Boot card, AKA MMC boot, or clone the OS. A step by step guide, http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...+clone&page=30, thread #292. One can copy everything on that thread except partition size. KDE installation requires more than 2G OS space (I know PGB instruction said 1.5G, maybe for fresh OS. My 1st trial of 1.8G OS ran out of space!), KDE itself may use 1.5G, but the installation seems to use more.
For a 4G SD card, the following partition should be fine:
This partition 1.5G fat32 storage (mmcblk0p1) and 2.3G OS (mmcblk0p2) for KDE installation, YMMV. If your system is relatively fresh, dont have a lot of apps installed, you may increase on your fat32 storage p1 and decrease on your p2. But again, if you cut p2 too much, KDE installation runs out of space, you will have to repeat all over again.
Assume all is well, you are now booting from your 4G SD card internal on a N800 running 2008Os (2007.50-2) and you checked there is ~2 G OS on /rootfs:
DiskUsage, Ctrl Panel>Memory>Device mem avail, whatever you can use to check.

mv bzip2 /usr/bin
chmod +x /usr/bin/tar
chmod +x /usr/bin/bzip2
3) cd /
/usr/bin/tar jxvf KDE358v2.tar.bz2 (25 min or more)
/usr/bin/tar zxvf SUPv2.tgz (5 min or more)
Sorry, I have been real busy guys, most of my spare time renting and looking at vehicles. I have made my decision now, and should have my new vehicle tomorrow. Hopefully I will have some time to spend on KDEv2 debs very soon..
The problem was the xmodmap ~/.xmap on startup - as soon as I moved the shortcut to that out of .kde/Autostart it started working. Also that fixed this!
(which was there from the beginning, but I was more distracted by the other problem to think they might be related)
I'll let you know if I run into any more key-related problems.

Though if I remove the ~/.xmap file, wouldn't that destroy the keybinding I have for moving windows (the vol down buttons on the n800) so I can move windows around to access the rest of most dialogs?

I think it all depends on how you assigned your keybindings. If you used Xmodmap to assign the bindings then I believe that deleting the .xmap will get rid of all key changes. If however, you assigned the key bindings using KDE's Control Center (either Input Actions or Keyboard Shortcuts) then you should be ok.
FWIW, I haven't had problems with Xmodmap (or the .xmap file) on my N810.

There's another thread just started in the past few days - PB has said he's going to start working on the new debs now.
I found, when downloading the KDE tar.gz files from tablethacker.com that I needed to use wget, so when the download stopped working (about three times for the big file), I could just break (Ctrl-C) and start the download again with wget -c to resume downloading.
I also had the problem with screen lock. It is important to note that I'm fairly sure that this is AN N800 PROBLEM. We don't have a slid[e]y switch. Moving the xmodmap.desktop file out of .kde/Autostart as described here did the trick. Removing the KP_ENTER stuff from after "keycode 36 =" in the ~/.xmap file as stated here does NOT work. It simply made the square button useless for everything.
I also have the problem that when I hit the Home button to get right-click, it works to turn the right click ON. But then I can't turn right-click OFF again. My clicks get stuck in right-click mode, even after exiting KDE. I have to reboot to regain left-click again.
EDIT: I figured out the broken right-click.
I went into Menu->Settings->Regional & Accessibility->Input Actions->Menu Editor Entries->K Menu - kde-swmb.desktop then Delete Action.
Then, using instructions found in PinCushionQueen's post (and a quick search to find where the script actually lived), I created my own group, created my own action, assigned it to the Home key (F5) and in the "Menu entry to Execute" field, I put /usr/bin/swmb.sh ... and it works great now!
