I noticed those xml's too while looking for a configuration file... I think you are on the right track. Is your build available?
I could make it available I guess, although it's too big for the itt limit to attach it here I think. But then there's the discussion on legality of accessing w.com in the first place (although my modified version takes user input which might make a legal difference).
EDIT: NB: My self-compiled/modified version is for OS2007. I don't know if an OS2007 home applet works on OS2008.
BTW TA-t3, where is this /home/user/.omwrc? I don't see it after a fresh installation.
There is none, normally. When I saw that the maintainer would be on vacation maybe two weeks I wouldn't want to wait, so I modified the source code to read the URL (or actually a 'sprintf' style format line with URL and %s and %s etc.) from a /home/user/.omwrc if there is one (otherwise it falls back to the original hardcoded non-working URL). So, this isn't something standard.
I found a fix on the garage bug reports page. A user named Wolf has posted a patched binary. Please keep in mind, that downloading an untrusted binary is a SERIOUS SECURITY NO-NO! Do so at your own risk.
That being said, it did work for me. Again, make sure your installed version is 0.20.1. Take a look at Wolf's post here.
Download his lib file and rename the old one; reboot tablet. The fix is simple.
I was brave/foolish enough to load v0.20.1 from the Testing Maemo Extras repo and the patched library from the above link. Now getting weather again on my N800.

Bingo!
For me, this method would not work with v0.20.1 that I had downloaded from the OMweather garage page.
I then uninstalled, activated the Testing Maemo Extras repository and found that version in App Manager and reinstalled.
It now works... go figure

As someone reported, it will not display more than 4 days worth of icons no mater what lay out is selected. Setting "visible items" above 6 will leave only a default 32 degrees for both the high and low temperature and no icon for days past 4.
It ain't perfect but at least it's something until Vlad gets back and picks the project back up.
Update not working for me - now get 5 days and all are still showing N/A across the board. On starting up omweather settings I get a full height blank white screen with the heading 'Other Maemo Weather Settings' and the system is locked up. Also the all the icons on the left side are missing. Tried re-installing the whole programme but the result was the same - the only strange thing was that on re-installing 20.1, initially all the readings came up including the current temperature and shortly thereafter all reverted to the dreaded N/A.
EDIT just restarted the system (for the 4th time), the 5 days showed N/A and then suddenly all the temps. appeared. Then tried the 'settings' menu and that also worked. Go figure, I don't understand it.
At first App manager wouldn't let me install saying source packages were from a different something. I forgot the exact error message. Then I put the tablet in red pill mode and it installed. It also said you have to restart and I did that as well and now it is working.
EDIT:
So, I think I found out what the problem might have been. It seems that mYTube was using MyDocs to store the videos even though I told it to store them in a folder inside my removable memory card called "mytube". So I deleted all the videos inside MyDocs/mytube and deleted the folder in mmc1/mytube. I then uninstalled mYTube. I reinstalled it, but when it asked me to point to the folder I selected the entire field of "Removable Memory Card" and it automatically created a "mytube" folder inside that. Seems to be working... for now.
