I thought I would play around with the Garnet VM after freeing up a little space. I had around 10 MB free on my device after installing GarnetVM.

Naturally, I thought the virtual file Garnet would create would be located on one of my SDHC cards instead of my internal memory, so I selected to make it 64 MB. But my N800 locked up while creating the file and I had to force restart my N800.

After restarting, I noticed a 64 MB file was located in /home/user/.gvm. A bit puzzled, I was still able to sync with the Palm Desktop, install Documents to Go, transfer some Word documents to GarnetVM, and even read them.

My file system still said I had around 8 MB left free space. So I tried reinstalling Scite (~2.5 MB). This locked up my N800 and I had to once again force reboot.

However, now my N800 refused to boot up. It kept showing the Nokia screen and the blue progress bar would get all the way to the right, sit there, then my N800 would reboot.

Finally I managed to get to the Maemo desktop where I deleted the nasty GarnetVM 64 MB file.

I have e2fsk installed, but um, can't seem to get it to check the file system for errors and correct them. What terminal command should I use?

Haven't done this on my tablet.

When I need to do this on one of my servers, I usually do this:
# touch /forcefsck

(as root)

It creates an empty file "forcefsck" at the top of the root filesystem, and then I reboot. It should check it on a reboot if that file exists.

It's not e2fs; it's jffs2. So you'll need a different fsck...
