woah. i just realized that a fast, hard stab at the inpput box works even in skype. the key is fast. i haven't been able to use the full screen thumb board with skype for months.

Not skype specfic. I can't use it even in notepad. I installed cjk package. Not sure whether it caused problem.

So I am focusing to get dpad working. I reset the text input setting. But that didn't work. the dpad
still sends the "return" key instead bringing the finger keyboard. Any clue?
It could be worst, believe me. In my case, when I press the dpad it brings the finger keyboard but after I press the enter button, let's say to go to a website it forgets what I typed and it reloads the last page!

CJK package is the problem. It uses its own VK. I had to give up the cjk package, which has excellent IM support. After removing the package, everything is fine.

I suppose you mean the sensitivity of the touchscreen? There's a theory floating around on this forum (to which I hesitantly subscribe) that if you do the calibration (see control panels), that how hard you press in calibrating determines the sensitivity of the touchscreen. Tap superlightly, it will be sensitive; press hard to calibrate, it will be less sensitive when in use.

[sigh]

Remember how in OS2007 next to where you selected whether it should bring up the full screen keyboard with a finger tap there was a sensitivity adjustment?

I miss that.

I also wonder if that setting is lurking in a .conf file somewhere, just waiting to be edited... I know next to nothing about how/if/where maemo deals with the touchscreen or where the input settings are stored, though.

Or is it something the gconf editor could access/change?

It's not where it was (gconf). It could be around, but I'm guessing the only way to change it now is judicious hexediting. (Which is not intended as a serious suggestion.)

i see your post on the diablo forum. im about 3 weeks new to the n800 and am preety much getting the hand of it. i want to soon start programming on it but that wont be for now. As i see with os2008 it somewhat upgraded in many aspect, my favorite being youtube, however it also took away alot of simple things such as adjusting the screen sensitivity, making apps lockable, and they could of added simple things such as socks5 proxy support and better use of the bluetooth. i understand the a2dp thing not being easy to develop but i should be able to send a file to my device through bluetooth from my computer. at least it can still send through bluetooth. anyways what i wanted to ask was "what is diablo?" what is it used for, can i uninstall it, is it a different operating system, and how does it solve the finger/thumb keyboard problem?

EDIT:
so far from the pictures and some further reading in your posts at the diablo thread it seems to me that diablo integrates into the OS. am i correct?
