Shipping this back to CompUSA on Tuesday. I really wanted to use it as a videophone between work and home.

a week or so ago, my internal memory card stopped working on my month-old N800. In OS 2007, the card is greyed out, in OS 2008 the card simply isn't visible in the file manager. (Both OS installs are clean, without any backups applied.)
When searching for this problem, in every case it turned out to be the little magnet in the back hinge coming loose. Unfortunately, this does not appear to be the case for me - the magnet is sitting there, with a tiny adhesive label on it. ("There" means: horizontally centered, vertically half a centimeter below the silverish hinge opener.)
The memory card inserted into the internal slot works fine in the external slot, so it's not a problem with the card itself - or any of the half a dozen cards I've tested.
I had some slim hope that OS 2008 would magically get rid of the issue, but alas, it hasn't. Anybody left with any idea? Is there a way to force mounting the internal card via console? Maybe there is a problem with the magnet switch even though the actual magnet is in place. Otherwise, the only thing I can think of is that the internal slot is just shot. Guess I'll have to send it in after the holidays, then.
Thanks for any suggestions
Moritz
