How do I get the IP address assigned to my N770 device without using ifconfig, for which I do need to be root?

I have configured the device to use WLAN and DHCP.

You don't need to be root, you just need to know where it is.

/sbin/ifconfig

/sbin is in root's PATH but not user's

Alternately, click on the app menu, System(unless I renamed this, sorry if I did), Connection manager. Click the connection manager title bar, Internet connection, IP address.

There is also the very useful "IpHome" home applet.

This adds a box to your desktop (like clock news etc.) that will display your IP address when you connect (through Wifi or Bluetooth) and the quantity of data you have sent and received during the current session.

Probably the easiest way !

You can check your access point...to see what it assigns to your 770, yet another way to find out your IP. I have dhcp, but i reserve an IP for the 770 because I have to do port forwarding for gizmo to work for incoming calls. Not that I really use gizmo much...but just to play with

Thanks! I just installed 'IpHome', that puts itself on the main screen besides the RSS feeds and so on.
