I am running the Chumby Virtual client (using Grumby) and I at night I want to run the alarm clok on the N810.

How do I disable the powersaving off thru a script which I can then call from Personal Menu.

This way I can put 2 items in Personal menu to turn it on and off so that Grumby can constantly run showing the alarm clock at night and in day, I can switch on the powersaver.

Any help appreciated ...

Hi pal,
your way, would mean that you can save battery life, but as i
jack my n800 to the AC power overnight, i do not turn it off
at night.

On the other hand: i developed an alarm clock as Mojo for the
www.mojocafe.net and kept my device not on the external power.
The battery was more then half full on the next day when the
alarm rings. That totally worked for me.

So that might also work with the chumby application.

Greetings,
Carlos

Well, the easiest thing is to allow uber-long timeouts for the screen dimming/blanking, and then select them.

If you really want a personal-menu option instead of selecting through the brightness applet, or if you're not using the brightness applet, it's trivial to find the gconf keys for the current selection, and change that from the menu. Use gconf-editor to explore around in search of keys, and use gconftool to change them from scripts.
