Hi, I called the nearest CompUSA last night to make sure they had the 770 before driving 95 miles. They told me it had been pulled from the shelf and they no longer carried it! He did say that maybe a new version would be out soon. I see people here already have the 2006 OS. So where can I get one? Thanks! And if you don't mind, how easy is it to use for average joes?
Your post got my curiosity up, so I checked online. Compusa.com has the 770 listed as "sold out" and only 1 of the 2 stores in my area has any listed in stock.
I can't imagine that Nokia would release a new device too soon after the debut of OS2006, but you never know. I am guessing that CompUSA may have simply decided to stop carrying the 770.
1. It's easy to use for average joes.
2. COMPUSA may be sold out, but they haven't pulled the tablet. The website has been saying the 770 is out of stock for over a month. I'd try to order through the Nokia website. With shipping, it usually isn't that much more than Compusa with tax.
But, the point is,the 770 isn't being replaced.
I think maybe compUSA might stop selling them because several of them are out of stock here in Houston. Im looking to buy another one for my gf as she is always hogging mine to play mahjong. If you can't get it there try Fry's.
Thanks for the help! Now for a serious question: for just surfing the 'net, how would you compare the 770 with a cheap Dell laptop? Dell has them at $499 with built in wi-fi. They have the cheap processor, so I'm wondering if it's worth the extra money for a bigger screen or is the performance of the 770 superior to the point I'd regret buying the Dell? Thanks!
you can't put a laptop in your pocket and you can't do things with a 770 like a laptop. so you'll have to ask yourself, what is more important.
====================================
True, but I've never used a 770, or a cheap laptop. So for just surfing the internet, which is a better performer? I read on here how much you guys love the 770. Since the cheap Dell has a minimal processor, I was hoping someone familiar with both can tell me if, besides the screen difference, are they comparable in performance, or would I have to step up to a much more expensive laptop to do what the 770 does? Thanks.
In addition, the cheap laptop would be easily interfaced with a modem or an ethernet port. So it really depends on your setup.
In terms of performance, even a cheap dell laptop is going to outperform the 770 in almost every single area. It's not a fair contest. And a dell laptop has more software avaliable. Like I said; it's not a contest.
If you want something for just internet and email, get the 770. But if you want anything other than the limited 770 Apps, get the laptop.
