Having survived the diablo reflash (second attempt was the charm) the next thing on my check list to get back to where I had been is to maybe clone the OS and boot from the N810's internal card but I wonder if I have to do that.
- If I boot from the internal flash the memory space for the OS is essentially 256mb (though I can add additional swap space on the internal card.) 256mb limits the amount of applications I can install, true? I'm not done re-installing and I have only 50mb available.
- If I partition the 2GB internal card as, e.g. 256mb FAT32 and 1.7gb ext2, clone the OS, and boot from internal card that is way way more than 256mb for the OS and I can install a heck of a lot more applications, right? Even considering file compression...
Is there a way to not clone the OS and use the internal flash and internal card on the N810 all for OS memory and really maximize the amount of space for application installation? I mount the external card for data but that's external storage, not OS memory per se.
Thank you.... if this is covered somewhere, sorry for not finding it.
I'd say cloning to MMC is probably the way to go. However, if you want, you can create a ext2/ext3 partition on your external or internal card and store executables on that partition. This requires more maintenance on your part though, although you can mount an extension to /usr/bin on your external card and store executables on some folder there.
So it can easily be done, just format a partition on your external card as ext2 or ext3 and you can use it for storing applications and so forth, but I'd say that overall cloning is an easier and more useful way to go
