Haven't used my N800 for a while since last travel in March, today I took it out, pressed the power on button, but there was basically no display on screen, I thought I needed to recharge it, but after recharge, it's still the same: basically no display! I can only see very very dim "Nokia" logo on the screen when it's on. Everything else seemed to be OK, the blue light around the key is on, I can hear sound, and I can even upgrade the software using the USB cable connected to my PC and it says upgrade successful...

I remember this happened once before, but after a while when I turned it on again, the screen came back...but this time, no matter what I did, it doesn't work anymore.

Is there something I missed? or any trick? or my N800 is died? It's only 6 months old, if it's died, I'll need to contact Nokia for warranty.

Thank you in advance!

Hmm... just to check the obvious have you tried messing with the brightness setting of the screen?

It worked fine last time when I used it in March. The brightness setting should be reset if I upgrade the software using the USB cable, right? As I said, I could even upgrade the software to the latest version, on my PC, it says upgrade successful...

yes... reflashing should solve any software issues...

If a reflash doesn't cure it, then it's either a battery issue or your tablet's actually bricked.

The I guess my only option is to request warranty service.

Definitely not a bricking - he said he can see the Nokia logo, plus hearing sounds and upgrading firmware.

Sounds more like something's gone wrong with the screen.

Yes you're right, I can basically do anything that doesn't need to look at the screen. Other than the dim screen, I believe it's working fine.
But why? even after I upgraded the software twice successfully, it's still a dim screen.

Sounds like the screen backlight is not working... and this is most likely hardware issue. Could be simply that the connection from the "motherboard" to backlight LED's is broken. Best bet is to send it to Nokia if it is still under warranty.

EDIT: You may try to "gently hit" the device? The idea is to try to shake the connections... and maybe can restore the lost contact to backlight LED's. But of course do this at your own risk!

Thank you! Yes it's still under warranty, bought in Dec 2007 from Circuit City.

That'd be my first guess, too.
