The title really says it all...its great to have skype/gizmo on my n810...but to reduce calling costs further, I want to setup a sip/voip phone at home(I'm in college, far, far away!) so that I can call family without them having to sit in front of a computer ( they're not too computer savvy) and so that they can call me by picking up the phone(I'll probably get skypeIn no or gizmo's equivalent).
Can anybody out there suggest what phone could handle both?
Thanx!

I don't think there is one Phone for voip and skype in same time. You need your parents to use standard phone so n800 is not an option in your case.

So, I don't know where are you living, but i think that there is two options:
1- Buy one device which include, Modem+router+voip, like 2wire 2701HGV. And buy a Skype phone with dual-mode (skype and standard phone) like Linksys CIT400 or Netgear SPH200D.
You take a line from VOIP output (2wire configured with Gizmo) and connect it to CIT 400 (standard phone input), and another one from LAN output (2wire 2wire configured with Gizmo) to CIT400 (LAN connection input). That's it.

2- If you can't find something like 2wire above, you can buy use buy linksys PAP2 (you configure it with Gizmo) to get a voip input from it. You have to use also a CIT400 for skype calls of course.

I hope this can help you.

I'd say that the best bet is to get a hardware SIP phone for your family. I do the same with my "not so computer literate" relatives. I have had great success with Grandstream phones and phone adapters. You just need to open a SIP account (such as Gizmoproject...), enter the account information to the phone, and there you go... It is just as simple as dialing a number on the phone keypad by your family and then your N810 will ring. The same works from your N810 to your family, just like it was just a regular phone call.

I have noticed that the N810 built in SIP client works a lot better than Gizmo client. It seem like the Gizmo client is missing some voice codecs that most SIP phones use? Most of the time I hear only some garbled sound using Gizmo, while the SIP client sound is clear.

If both of you do get N8x0, then you can call directly between the N8x0's. In addition the video works too through SIP!
