With Diablo it seems like my N800 is what I expected it to be like a year ago when I bought it.

I can now run a window manager of my choice without having apps that won't work properly.

I can now use a different onscreen keyboard that actually can send an ENTER key to non gtk apps (still doesn't work with gtk apps). Not perfect, but it's an improvement.

Input with stylus is back to the quality (or better) than with OS2007. OS2008 was terrible for double entry and other nonsense.

It's late, I'm tired. Overall, I'm very (finally?) pleased with this release.

I feel so left out of all the fun right now. After all this time, my N810 developer device stuff *still* hasn't been worked out. Wrong codes, wrong stores, just wrong wrong wrong.

Glad to hear that it's working so well now. Just wish I could see it myself. :/

What do you mean? What WM? How is it different than Chinook?

What do you mean? Are you saying they've reduced the interference between the hildon keyboard and third-party virtual keyboards?

People keep telling me that. If you say so.

Wow, zerojay, it's been months since the developer device promo. You should get yourself sponsored to the Maemo Summit in September and get the Nokia guys to hand you an N810 in person

Indeed. That's... awful! OTOH, maybe if the N810W is out by then, you can get one of them, and see if it works with anything up North.

And Qole, until I ran a dual-boot of pseuDiablo and Chinook, I didn't know there was a problem with OS2008, either; it didn't feel worse than OS2007 (to me) until I was going back and forth. Then it was crystal clear. Stylus input is much better than it was, and I can only assume all the people bashing OS2008 were right all along and OS2007 was better.

Yeah, the stylus action in 2008 OS is far worse than 2007 OS on a N800.

I'm running a dual-boot Chinook / Diablo system, and I can compare, too. I guess my biggest gripe, my most annoying problem, is being unable to draw a continuous line (very important when highlighting text, or even more importantly, trying to draw a ramp in Numpty Physics). This didn't get better in Diablo. I suspect my touchscreen now.

The other interesting thing is that the duplicate letter problem seemed to abate somewhat in Chinook in latter months. It was mainly the discontinuous line problem that drove me loopy, and that still exists.

Yes, it was random skipping; and, in my experience, that's greatly reduced/eliminated. (Important for HWR, too, since many letters with a skip in the middle seem to get interpreted as "backspace"; though not as important as ramps, of course...)
