I just installed Diablo July 16, 2008 on my N800. Instead of immediately
doing a restore, I tried to install Skype. It was not in the list of
installed applications as I had been told it would be.

I went to
http://catalogue.tableteer.nokia.com.../user/s/skype/
First I clicked on
skypel10n-engb_1.7.113.22.2_all.deb
and immediately got the message "incompatabile application"
Then I clicked on
skype-theme-default_1.7.113.22.2_all.deb
It started to load a loader, asked if I wanted to install 4.4 MB; and then I got the message "incompatabile application."
Then I tried
skype_1.7.113.22.2_armel.deb
which downloaded a loader and asked if I wanted to install 2.6 MB.
Then it said some necessary packages were missing.

Any help in this jungle of sw hither and there would be greatly
appreciated in installing Skype.

Anyone who wants to reorganize the jungle so that there is a
single point that lists all of the URLs for the latest sw would
really make the lives of us poor users better. There are just
so many pages full of junk ads. A single list, updated often
with NOTHING except the latest URL's would be greatly
appreciated. Then we could dl this list as desired and run
diff against our previous latest list and see what is new.
Cordially,
Oouc

Oft repeated in all the threads....

but here we go again.

Open Application Manager -> Tools -> Applciation Catalog
Select "maemo Extras", and edit to add

Distribution fields value as : chinook diablo
Components : free non-free

and then refresh the applications to get all the older Chinook apps to work as usual.

Thanks Nilchak,
Why do I keep seeing threads that say that Skype comes automatically under Diablo? The links I tried all came from a thread that said that there was a later version of Skype for Diablo. I was eager for something better since Skype under OS2008 and previous versions greyed out the call button every 2 days and I had to uninstall and reload the whole thing over the Internet. Please see the posts at Re: Problems with Skype on N800 with OS2008.

A list of applications that work on each device with which operating system seems like a better idea each time I read these many threads with "it works for me" and "it does not work for me!"
