I've been looking for a way to play Amiga .mod (and similar formats) music files. I'm running Diablo / the latest release of the OS. I've tried:

Modplug with Media Player (default player on the n800) = Fail
XMMS - libmikmod2 installed, but not showing as plugin = Fail
XMMS - cannot locate libmodplug in Chinook / Diablo .deb file = Fail
Canola2 - ALWAYS says the local drive is too full = Fail


I even tried to build the cross compile env. on my Ubuntu 8 box, but it ran into 'errors'.

Won't someone help this displaced Amiga User find a way to 'recapture his youth'? At least in sound!

Thanks for any tips or suggestions... I'm willing to try almost anything... (Heck, I'd try to shove an A500 into the external SD slot if I thought it would do me some good beyond an absurd YouTube video!)

This is awesome!!! Looks just like a tool called protracker on the Amiga. Right down to the the load dialog.... A port maybe?

So this is outstanding, but it looks like only one song at a time and no playlist. I love it, but would really like to queue up some songs.

You've the nail on the head with MilkyTracker.... Any additional thoughts? So... Very... Close.....

I think there is a Milkyplayer also (at least I recall seeing something about it when I was compiling Milkytracker) - I'll take a look when I get home tonight to see what exactly it is and if I can get it to compile.

And yup - gotta love the old Amiga look/feel (now if only someone would port AROS to Arm....)

Ok... so I stayed up super late doing some digging.... I learned that Timidity (which is available at garage.maemo.org) will play .mod files.... So I install it.... and point it at the folder of mods on my SD card.. and after a few seconds it DOES play the music; albeit with no controls or interface beyond the command line. The real big problem is that the battery is taking a major hit from playing a couple dozen .mod files today. I listened nearly all day to MP3s on Monday and saw little drain on the battery...

Not sure if it's playing mod files or the processor power it's taking to transcode them first.

In other wonderings.... (and I should probably post this one separately).. while running updates the process errors out for the mail app and the Operating system... (i think I'll gather details and post that one after all)

Psykosis.... Please let me know if you have any success compiling Milky player if you don't mind... I really appreciate you taking the time to look into it.
